Perspective is a useful tool for teaching and learning. Many educators, myself included, often find ourselves teaching what was never fully taught to us—filling in the gaps, righting old wrongs, and doing so for the benefit of our students, our children, and the future.

For me, education is an extension of joy. I think often of my favorite years as a student—4th and 8th grades—when kind and patient teachers made school bearable. Now, I teach to give back what they gave me. My struggles with math weren’t treated as burdens, but as challenges we would work through together.

To teach well, we have to be willing to learn. We have to know what is relevant and assign ourselves to tackling knowledge from the perspective of a student.

If we are not struggling to grasp a concept, we are not learning. Knowledge must always be just beyond our reach so that we can see its potential and be tempted to push towards it. For educators, sometimes that concept is as simple as how to communicate an idea or task to a struggling student.

With this in mind, I have spent my summer mornings approaching math from the perspective of a student. I invested in a simplified and compact curriculum, underwhelming yet just challenging enough to keep me interested. What I have discovered is that daily math is essential, not just for mastering content, but for developing a deeper understanding of processes, connections, and growth.

This daily routine keeps my mind sharp, activates prior knowledge, and puts the idea of a "growth mindset" into practice. Along the way, I’ve uncovered my own learning gaps and begun forming the kinds of questions a student might ask—and the kinds of answers that can truly support them.

Looking forward to the 2025-2026 school year and adding to my tutoring roster. 🥰

As a teacher, mother, and former “I hate math” enthusiast, I understand how frustrating modern math instruction can be—especially for parents who wonder, "Why can’t we teach it the old way?" But I always remind myself: the old way never worked for me. Today’s math pathway offers students a toolbox of strategies designed for different learning styles. It may be unfamiliar, but it opens more doors to understanding.

Math can be overwhelming to learn and to teach. Many years ago, as a fifth grader, I sat at the dining room table with my dad, one of the most patient people I would ever meet, as he tried to help me with my math homework. As patient as he was, there were limits to that patience, and we reached those limits nightly. What I didn’t know then, what he didn’t know, was that there was more than one way to get the correct answer.

As a current, certified teacher with 5 years of classroom experience, I am excited to work with you and your child(ren) to support current learning, bridge learning gaps, and further knowledge while building confidence in the classroom. With my guidance, caregivers and children will be able to sit together, discover, and share new knowledge, meeting the mathematical challenge without fear or frustration.

An average one-hour math tutoring session includes:

5 minutes: Week in review: student-led conversation

10 minutes: Concept review and Homework check

35 minutes: Mini lesson (5 minutes), Shared practice (10
minutes), Independent practice (20 minutes)

10 minutes: Student choice game (educational or other)

NOTE: Homework is assigned weekly and sets students up for success at the next session. Students earn points toward rewards for completed work!

Currently accepting students through grade 6
Coming soon: grades 7 and 8

Welcome to my page! As an educator, I particularly appreciate the benefits of a small group experience. Small group and one-on-one learning sessions reveal keys that unlock certain understandings of how and why a student learns while fostering a valuable relationship between student and teacher. The satisfaction of meeting a child where they are academically, at their pace, and bringing them to where they need to be, fuels my love for teaching. I want that, in turn, to benefit the child and ignite a love and respect for learning.

The tutoring experience provides a safe and nurturing environment where mistakes are a welcome part of the learning process, questions are encouraged, and achievements, great and small, are celebrated. I am excited to tailor this experience to your child's needs as I work to support current learning, bridge learning gaps, and further student knowledge.

I offer my services to support the child, the caregiver, and the primary educator.
