The Newberry County Teacher Forum met at 7:30 am at the district office. Bojangles’s provided breakfast and the teachers heard from Paige Graham, a former district teacher of the year and teacher/administrator. Mrs. Graham spoke about the various roles teachers play and the other facets of education from being in the classroom, office, and coordinating with local, state, and federal mandates. We appreciate her encouraging words.

The outgoing members of the teacher forum were given certificates and gifts after completing their 2-year term. Dr. Anderson and Dr. Cary made presentations on the 2027-2028 calendar and the work that has gone into planning that with feedback from the school board, teachers, community members, and students.

The Newberry County Teacher Forum met on Thursday, March 13 at Whitmire Community School.

WCS provided a pack of wildflower seeds for members of the Teacher Forum. Breakfast was provided by Sonic.

Dr. Carson Ware presented updates on the Shared Leave Policy for the district and how it relates and differs to our current Sick Leave Bank policy.

The South Carolina Education Association had a display table with snacks, treats, and information for those in attendance. Melody Bollinger, upstate SCEA representative, provided an informative presentation about the motto, programs, support, and other options they provide for teachers.

Following her presentation, the 2026-2027 district calendar was presented, and feedback on it from the Teacher Forum is requested by April 1. A form was shared for feedback for the Teacher Forum.

At the end of the Teacher Forum gathering, outgoing forum members were recognized including District Teacher of the Year retiree, Jan Hyman.

The Newberry County Teacher Forum met on Friday, January 3 at the District Office for lunch and presentations from Dr. Carson Ware, Brian Redd (2024-2025 Newberry County Teacher of the Year), and Braden Wilson (2025 SC Teacher of the Year). Braden's presentation was titled "It's the Small Things" which focused on IMPACT-what you do matters.

The 2024 School District of Newberry County Teacher of the Year, Mr. Brian Redd, proudly stands alongside former District and South Carolina State Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Debra Templin, at the prestigious SC Teacher Forum Conference. This weekend, Mr. Redd will be honored for his exceptional dedication to education and will immerse himself in sessions aimed at honing his leadership skills and advancing his professional journey. A well-deserved celebration of his hard work, this conference promises to be a stepping stone toward even greater impact in the lives of his students and community.

The Newberry County Teacher Forum met on Monday, November 4, 2024 in the conference room at the Newberry County Career Center. Lunch was provided by Bojangles. Patrick Kelly from Palmetto State Teachers Association was the guest speaker and spoke about teacher advocacy.

The Teacher Forum Committees met to discuss advocacy, communication, and service.

The next meeting of the Newberry County Teacher Forum is on January 3, 2025. The State Teacher of the Year, Braden Wilson, will be the guest speaker.

On September 14, 2024, our SDNC Teacher Forum joined forces with the Newberry College Education Department to recognize our 2024-25 Teachers of the Year! Teachers were invited to a tailgate at Holland Hall, received tickets to the game, received a goody bag including an awesome tshirt and called to the field to be celebrated.

We had such a great time celebrating these amazing educators and look forward to continuing this tradition next year!

Thank you Newberry College for supporting and celebrating our teachers!

Our School District of Newberry County Teacher Forum members were so excited to treat our 2024-25 Induction Teachers with some yummy snacks for their first meeting of the school year on September 10, 2024.

We are wishing all our first year teachers a fantastic school year!

On August 2, 2024 the School District of Newberry County Teacher Forum treated our members and welcomed our new 2024-25 Teachers of the Year!

Congratulations to all of our schools teachers of the year and to Mr. Brian Redd, District TOY!

A huge thank you to Bill and Fran's Restaurant for the delicious meal they provided.

Today Newberry County Teacher Forum treated our first year induction teachers to some snacks while they attended their monthly meeting. Our goal as a forum is to celebrate all teachers and help with teacher retention. We are so proud of our first year teachers and were honored to show them our appreciation.

The Newberry County Teacher Forum met on Friday, January 5 from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at the District Office. The 2024 South Carolina Teacher of the Year, Renee' Atkinson, addressed the group. Following her address, everyone enjoyed lunch from Laila's and worked in their various committees. BJ Graphix of Newberry made shirts for the Teacher Forum members.

On Thursday, October 26, the Newberry County Teacher Forum met in the Engineering Building at the Newberry County Career Center. A continental breakfast was served prior to the 7:30 am meeting. Items were discussed from the previous meeting held during the Back-to-School Professional Development on Friday, August 4. These items included a recap from the School Board meeting in September where several members of the Teacher Forum were present to thank the School Board and to explain more about the programs and projects for the Teacher Forum. Additionally, a special “thank you” was shared from the tailgate and teacher recognition at the Newberry College football game. Dr. Lynn Cary presented calendar drafts for the next two school years (2024-2025 and 2025-2026). It is the hope of the district administration that we are working two years ahead for planning purposes. The members of the Teacher Forum were asked to share these calendar drafts with their staff and gather feedback for Dr. Cary and the Office of Instruction.

Debra Templin was the guest speaker. She was the South Carolina Teacher of the Year in 1996 and has been a leader and teacher advocate for decades. Mrs. Templin shared her joys and enthusiasm with the group and presented several door prizes. Her motivational speech resounded with those present and left us all with an energized feeling to go back into our schools and classrooms ready to conquer the world.

Following Mrs. Templin’s speech, those in attendance broke into groups based upon their areas of service: advocacy, communications, and service. The meeting was adjourned, and the teachers returned to their respective schools. The next meeting will be held in January.

The Newberry County Teacher Forum was officially started during the 2022-2023 school year and the District Teachers of the Year collaborated to determine the best way forward for the group. A constitution and guidelines were established, and support was garnered from the School Board. We were awarded seed money through the budget process for the 2023-2024 school year.
