Welcome back, Bruins! We're nearly two weeks into the fall semester. Our student workers and interns are busy resuming their projects and beginning new ones. Stay tuned this year especially as we release new/updated finding aids for collections, launch new exhibits, and formally introduce our oral history project.

Btw, this team of students is AMAZING! The only bummer is they are all scheduled to graduate this spring...

Happy 150th birthday to Herbert Hoover! 🥳🎂

He was born August 10, 1874 in Iowa. At the age of 11, he moved to Newberg in order to live with his Uncle and Aunt, Dr. Henry John and Laura Minthorn. The house that they lived in would later be preserved as a museum: The Hoover-Minthorn House, still located on the corner of E 2nd and River.

Herbert Hoover himself was there for the dedication, which took place almost 70 years ago on his 81st birthday. In his speech, he reflects on his childhood, his family, and his memories of growing up in the house and in Newberg. (Including the story of how one day, much to his aunt’s chagrin, he ate too many pears!)
