🦁💙💛 The Mabel Rush Lion Walk is Almost Here!

Mark your calendars! Our annual Lion Walk is happening this Friday, October 16! We’re looking forward to a fun-filled morning of walking, cheering, and supporting our students and school!

👟 Families are encouraged to join us and cheer on their students! We love having our school community come together for this special event.

🐾 A few important reminders:

* Families with an approved volunteer badge may enter the track to walk or run alongside their students.
* Families without a volunteer badge are welcome to cheer from the grandstand or along the fence surrounding the track.
* Each grade level has a designated walking time. Check the schedule in our graphic to see when your student will participate!

District Restructuring: Parent and Community Listening Sessions

Newberg-Dundee Public Schools is inviting parents, guardians, and community members to participate in upcoming listening sessions regarding the district’s proposed restructuring plan.

These meetings will provide an opportunity to learn about the goals and timeline of the proposed restructuring, ask questions, and share feedback directly with school board members and district leadership.

Listening Session Schedule

All meetings will take place from 6:00–7:00 p.m.

* Thursday, October 22 – Dundee Elementary
* Thursday, October 29 – Edwards Elementary
* Monday, November 2 – Mabel Rush Elementary
* Tuesday, November 3 – Ewing Young Elementary
* Wednesday, November 4 – Mountain View Middle School
* Thursday, November 5 – Joan Austin Elementary
* Tuesday, November 10 – Antonia Crater Elementary
* Thursday, November 12 – Chehalem Valley Middle School

Families and community members are welcome to attend any session, regardless of their home school. Spanish translation will be available at all meetings.

Community feedback is an important part of this process. We encourage families to attend, ask questions, and share their perspectives as the district plans for the future of our schools and students.

This week, we’re recognizing our Mabel Rush cafeteria team, Joseph Hampton and Danielle Leenders!

Each day, Joseph and Danielle work hard to prepare and serve meals to our students. Their efforts help ensure our students have the nutrition they need to learn and grow.

📚 Our Mabel Rush Book Fair is in full swing! 📚

It’s been wonderful to see our students excited about books and discovering new stories to enjoy!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Neiss, our librarian, for all the time and effort she has put into organizing the Book Fair and making it such a special experience for our students and families.

📖 There’s still time to shop! The Book Fair will be open tonight during conferences until 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow morning from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

With evening conferences underway and classrooms filled with teachers and families, our evening custodians are taking the opportunity to give our many windows some extra attention!

Last Friday was Custodian Appreciation Day, and we want to once again recognize and thank our outstanding custodial team:

Staff Recognition: Michelle Navetta-Walters

At our most recent School Board meeting, we were proud to recognize Michelle Navetta-Walters for her outstanding contributions to Mabel Rush. Michelle serves as a Reading Assistant and also gives generously of her time to support our school community through PIE, our school yearbook, and many other school activities.

During the presentation, Reading Specialist Jessica Hubbard shared:

“Michelle is dedicated and knowledgeable. She seeks to build connections and relationships every day as she helps students on their reading journey at Mabel Rush. She is an integral part of the reading team, assessing, progress monitoring, instructing, and tweaking daily lessons to fit the needs of the kids in front of her. She can pivot when kids are struggling and brings positive energy to her groups, which is contagious—allowing students to see the joy amidst the work of reading. I’m exceedingly grateful to work with Michelle!”

We are grateful for everything Michelle does for our students, staff, and families. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! 🦁💙💛
