What do you see?

At dropoff our K-3 class gets to spend time in these library books curated by Miss Caiti. They also enjoy time with blocks and their friends.

Our Principal, Mr. Michael takes over morning gathering working through Philippians 2:1-5. This is the foundation of our student covenant.

We grabbed this fun photo between classes. As I walked up I heard Mr. Chendall, our Lead Instructor of the 7th to 12th, on the climbing done with students. He was having a conversation with students and was aging, "...I am able to get to know you because I spend all day with you. It gives me a way to speak into your life that I would not get if I only saw you once a day for a year or two..."

This small (but big) moment of a teacher spending time with his students between classes exemplifies exactly what our mission is here at Northern Discovery Academy. Mentor-Instructors partnering with parents over several years to help students flourish and excel.

What are the benefits of our classroom structure?

- An instructor can build trust over hours, days, weeks, and years in a way distinct to our space.
- An instructor can detect exactly how students think, learn, and engage in multiple classes and tailor their approach to that student to challenge and grow them.
- Students create bonds with their instructors which allow learning moments to become life-altering opportunities.
- Parents engage with an instructor that spends several hours a day with their child in class and out, so that true collaboration is possible between parents and instructor built on trust and real relationship.

This creates a truly transformative element to what happens here at NDA. Thank you Chendall Brooks for being an incredible leader for these students.

One big development this summer was the addition of our cabin for our growing younger classes. This cabin is outfitted for our amazing K-3 and Forest School classrooms. Here, we have our Lead Instructor of the K-3 class, Miss Wynter Hoops, leading our K-3 in their morning Bible class in the new cabin!

Do you have a middle or high school student looking for a unique opportunity? We are excited to launch our OLEE program here at Northern Discovery Academy for 7th-12th graders.

What is the OLEE program?
It is a program for middle and high school students that takes place on Thursdays throughout the school year. The goal of the program is to engage kids in experiences and challenges that grow them as leaders in team work, collaboration, initiative, and problem solving through outdoor challenges and recreation. During these experience students will learn about outdoor recreation, entrepreneurship, and basic outdoor skills and opportunities all over the region.

A new program is launching in Newaygo County! The OLEE program is a Thursday-only experience for 7th-12th grade students that will teach team-work sills, leadership skills, test their resolve, problem-solving, and collaboration skills while engaging nature and preparing for the future. It is a tremendous opportunity. Open to full-time students and homeschool or hybrid students.
