University of Delaware Community Music School
CMS connects UD Music Majors & Faculty with the local community through enriching music experiences. We also offer many summer camps and specialized workshops.
The University of Delaware Community Music School (UDCMS) is the outreach program of the University of Delaware Department of Music. For nearly 20 years the UDCMS has provided a wide variety of music instruction options for more than 500 students a year. Our hearts are full on this Valentine’s weekend as our STELLAR Group Class teachers spent an evening brainstorming how to help their students LEARN THROUGH PLAY!

Do you or your child enjoy tinkering around with music technology? Join the CMS Digital Music class, where participants will use online Digital Audio Workstations and MIDI keyboards to create their own masterpieces! Past projects have included video game inspired music, live recordings, sampling, beatmaking, and student-led creations. Class is customized to students’ interests and no prior experience is needed. Open to students in grade 5 (must be 10 years old at start of class) to adults.

You can count on the CMS teachers to give your children individual attention while also showing them how to work together toward ensemble goals. With an average 7:1 student to teacher ratio, our youngest musicians receive personalized musical guidance which is key in these developmental years!

UPDATE: UD campus will now be closed through 1/26/26. Private Study lessons can either be done via UD zoom or rescheduled. Stay warm, stay safe…and make some music at home!

Learning through play is the CMS way…especially at Sweet Beats where kids explore instruments, create through dramatic play, move to music, and sing with friends!
