Dear Birch Grove Intermediate Families,
I am excited to join the Newark Unified School District and I'm thrilled to be Birch Grove Intermediate’s new principal and getting the opportunity to work with the BGI community.
My journey began in Fresno, CA and I completed my Bachelor's in Liberal Studies at Fresno State and my Master's in Educational Leadership at CSU East Bay. Coming from a background in education for 14 years, I've had the opportunity to teach across elementary, middle, and high school, along with leading after-school programs, and most recently I was an assistant principal in the Redwood City School District.
Personally, on a fun note:
I love trying new foods
Spending time with family
Embarking on adventures with my dog, Blitz.
Attempting extreme sports - Skydiving, ziplining, and whitewater rafting are just some of the experiences I've had, and I'm always seeking the next one!
Birch Grove Intermediate's well-deserved reputation for fostering a supportive and innovative learning environment for grades 3-5 excites me. My passion lies in fostering a positive and supportive environment where every student's voice thrives. Open communication and valuing everyone's voice is crucial to me. By working collaboratively with staff and families, we can create these opportunities for our students to find their interests and reach their potential. Through these strong partnerships we will work collaboratively to support the learning of all students at school and at home with an “ we're all in this together approach.”

Spring Break was gone too soon! Wilfred had an amazing time down in SoCal, enjoying the sun and the surf. He has a LOT more pictures coming this way so stay tuned! Did you and your pup have a nice break? Where did you go?

Who else to rescue our Wilfred from the Glitter Ducks other than our Principal! Ms. Wong carried Wilfred around to monitor lunchtime and also to BikeMobile last Friday! The little cape she had for him seems to fit him perfectly!

Oh no Wilfred! After spending some time with our BGI Librarian (who is a big fan of cars), the Glitter Ducks ended up taking him! They took him for a swim and Wilfred was cold afterward, so he decided to snuggle up with his new friend Teddy. He also could've sworn there were only two Glitter Ducks, where did this third one come from....?

Wait a minute! Why didn't we see Wilfred at the soccer tournament? Looks like he was busy packing his necessities to join our 5th graders at Science Camp last week! He had so much fun at disco night, the beach, and helping hand out letters from parents to our students. He's happy to be back home and ready to learn after his week away. Did Wilfred join your student there? What was their experience like?

CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH OF OUR BGI BULLDOG TEAMS FOR WINNING IT ALL AT THE NEWARK CUP 2024!!! It was hard fought and the other teams had us on our toes, but looks like our tiny bulldogs came out the mightiest! Special thanks to Coach Berto, Coach Natalie, and Coach Brandon for making it all possible!

Wilfred just seems to make friends everywhere he goes! Even with cats! Hanging out with some of our fourth graders makes him very excited to go to school every day!
