New research from Rutgers reveals why antibiotics often fail to treat a common dental implant disease. Instead of bacteria alone, the problem may stem from microscopic titanium particles shed by implants—triggering an overactive immune response that damages bone.
This breakthrough identifies a potential new drug target and could transform how peri-implantitis is treated: go.rutgers.edu/utbirjye

This winter, Rutgers Health’s Population Health Office within the Office of Clinical and Health Affairs led a meaningful initiative to support families in need by distributing essential baby-care items across NJ.
Thanks to a generous donation from Kenvue, 2,196 pounds of supplies — representing more than 1,000 baby-care products and gift sets — were distributed through seven community partners in New Brunswick, Camden, and Trenton, helping reach families across the state.
Staff, students, and volunteers played a key role in preparing and delivering items efficiently. Rutgers Health Service Corps students also supported the effort during Giving Tuesday, gaining valuable hands-on experience in community engagement and service.
This effort reflects the power of collaboration between corporate partners, academic institutions, and community organizations, as well as a shared commitment to supporting families across NJ.
