This fall, Ahadu will begin an exciting new chapter at Johns Hopkins University, where they will pursue their academic goals while continuing to grow as a musician and leader.

Meet Kenya! Kenya has been studying and performing African dance since 2000, developing a deep appreciation for the art form, its cultural traditions, and its power to bring communities together. For the past two years, Kenya has been a dedicated member of Zawadi African Dance & Drum, contributing to the company’s mission of preserving and celebrating African and African diasporic cultures through dance, music, and education.

Meet Mekka! Mekka Niambi is a professional dancer, licensed cosmetologist, entrepreneur, and cosmetology instructor whose career bridges the worlds of entertainment, beauty, and education.
Her performance credits include Coming 2 America, The Color Purple, and serving as a principal dancer in Fela! The Musical. Trained under renowned artists such as Debbie Allen and Mama Karen, Mekka is technically trained in multiple dance styles. While her versatility spans many disciplines, African dance remains the foundation of her artistry and her greatest passion.
For over 20 years, Mekka has been a dedicated performer and leader with Zawadi African Dance and Drum Inc., sharing the rich traditions, history, and spirit of African dance with audiences near and far.
