It is being piloted in five New Jersey Communities – Hackettstown, Jersey City, Long Beach Island, Newark, and Woodbridge.

Street Smart NJ is a statewide public education campaign that aims to make our streets safer by changing the behaviors that contribute to pedestrian-vehicle crashes. Street Smart is New Jersey’s first statewide pedestrian safety campaign to educate pedestrians and motorists about making safety a priority whether walking or driving. The Campaign is coordinated by NJTPA and supported by the Federal Highway Administration, NJ Department of Transportation, and NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety.

Think distracted driving is just about your phone? Think again. Anything that pulls your focus from the road – eating, chatting, even daydreaming – can be deadly. More distractions behind the wheel dramatically increase your risk of a crash or a close call. So, what's more important: that text, that snack, or your life? Drive smart.
