K–2 students had a blast exploring cause and effect with our marble run over the past couple of weeks!
As they built and tested their designs, students discovered that every action has a result. When they changed the height, angle, or pathway, they could clearly see how it affected the marble’s movement. This hands-on experience helped them understand that:
• Cause and effect means “if I do this… then that will happen”
• Small changes can lead to different outcomes
• Predictions don’t always go as planned and that’s okay!

Through trial and error, students practiced:
✔️ Critical thinking
✔️ Problem-solving
✔️ Making predictions
✔️ Learning from mistakes

Using a marble run in STEM is powerful because it turns learning into an active experience. Instead of just talking about cause and effect, students see it, test it, and adjust it in real time. This builds confidence, encourages curiosity, and strengthens early engineering skills.
The excitement in the room was contagious as students worked together, asked questions, and celebrated both successes and “learning moments.” This made me smile.
Hands-on STEM learning like this helps lay the foundation for future innovators!

This week in STEM, our younger students explored cause and effect through hands-on experiments!

Students used tubes, mats, balls, angles, and small cars to test their ideas and see what happens when they make changes. They learned that when you change a variable, you get a different result!

Through trial and error, they discovered how different tools and setups can create new outcomes.

So much creativity, problem-solving, and learning in action!

Thanks to I Love The Universe for this very timely post!

Set your reminder and step outside just after sunset.
Tonight, six planets will stretch across the evening sky in a rare and beautiful planetary parade.

🌍 Visible planets:
Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus & Neptune

🕒 Best viewing time:
30–60 minutes after sunset
Look toward the western to southwestern horizon.

🔭 Mercury and Venus will glow low near the horizon, while Jupiter and Saturn will shine brighter higher in the sky. Uranus and Neptune may require binoculars or a small telescope — but they’ll be there, moving silently in the vast darkness.

This isn’t just an alignment.
It’s a reminder that we live inside a perfectly choreographed cosmic system.

Step outside.
Look up.
Witness the Solar System with your own eyes.

Tonight, the universe puts on a show — and you’ll have front-row seats.!✨🌌

STEM Grant Update
Learning in Action!

Our Tech Enrichment students have been hard at work, and I could not be more proud!

Our fourth graders are creating a Solar System map for our Dash robot. Each group researched a planet and discovered five fascinating facts. Dash will travel from planet to planet so students can learn fun and important information about our solar system in an interactive way. Watching them research, collaborate, problem solve, and design has been amazing!

Our fifth graders have taken learning even closer to home by developing a community map of Newark for Dash to explore. Their map includes local businesses like Moore’s, EZ Mart, Harps Food Stores, and Newark Pharmacy, along with our local fire station and other community stops. Along the way, Dash will face student created challenges at each location!

Next week is one of my favorite parts, trial and error! Students will test their maps, problem solve, find solutions, and make improvements. This is where perseverance, teamwork, and real STEM thinking shine.

I cannot wait to see the creative challenges they design and how they grow through the process. Stay tuned for more updates! 🚀🤖

3–5 STEM

Our 3-5th graders revisited a favorite challenge from last year. They had to build a castle using only index cards. This time, we went deeper. We discussed structure, stability, planning, and design before jumping in.

But most importantly, we focused on collaboration and teamwork.

Students had to synergize by listening to each other’s ideas, making a plan together, adjusting when things didn’t work, and ensuring that every voice was part of the design and creation process. We are learning that the final product is important, however, the process of the teamwork, communication, perseverance, and shared ownership matters even more.

So proud of our Timberwolves for working hard, thinking critically, and building not just castles… but character. 💙🧡
