One small tweak helped him unlock a swing that felt quicker, freer, and more adjustable in games.

This high school hitter already had bat speed.

He already had intent.

But his two-hand finish was cutting his swing off early and making it harder to keep the barrel in the zone against real pitching.

So we didn’t rebuild his swing.

We didn’t change his mechanics.

We simply helped him finish with one hand so the barrel could release better and stay through the ball longer.

In his last tournament, he almost left the yard twice.

Both balls were driven all the way to the fence.

Sometimes the answer isn’t a full swing overhaul.

Sometimes it’s finding the one adjustment that helps a hitter feel comfortable, repeatable, and confident in games.

If you’re a high school hitter trying to become more consistent against real pitching, start looking for the small tweak that helps your swing show up when it matters.

Barrel depth is something that high schoolers often overlook.

Practice how efficient your swing path is deep in the zone to challenge yourself against real game situations.

Rafael Furcal used to work on this with me, and it’s a game changer.

High schoolers, joining a travel team or a high school team is a great thing.

More practices. More games. More coaches. More reps. More exposure.

But here’s the mistake a lot of players make:

They assume that because they joined a team, they no longer need an individual development plan.

Those are two completely different things.

Your team coach is responsible for the team.

They have to manage practices, lineups, games, winning, player rotations, team priorities, and a roster full of athletes.

That does not always mean they have the time to build a specific plan around your swing, your arm, your body, your mechanics, your schedule, and your long-term goals.

That’s where personal coaching comes in.

A team gives you a place to compete.

A personal development plan gives you a path to actually improve.

The goal is not to replace your team coaches.

The goal is to make sure you show up to your team more prepared, more confident, and more developed than you were before.

Because making the team is not the finish line.

It is the starting point.

Now the question becomes:

Are you doing what it takes to separate yourself once you get there?

Stop popping the ball up and start driving it with intent.

Most hitters who live underneath the ball are usually missing one of these 3 things:

Bat angle at launch

If your barrel gets too flat too early, your hands push out and your swing works steep/down across the zone.

Posture at landing

If you collapse into your backside, you create an uphill path and lose consistency through contact.

Barrel direction through contact

Your hands need to work above the barrel so the barrel can work through the ball based on pitch location.

Fix these 3 and you’ll give yourself a much better chance to drive the baseball instead of missing underneath it.

If you want a plan built around your exact swing

If you’re lunging, you’re probably trying to go get the ball instead of letting your swing work through the zone.

High school hitters need to learn how to control their stride, stay behind the baseball, and let the ball travel.

The goal isn’t to jump at the pitch.

The goal is to be on time, balanced, and powerful at contact.

Stop Lunging Forward.

People underestimate the power of consistency.

Not the big moments.

Not the perfect facility.

Not the newest bat, glove, or cleats.

The athletes who separate themselves are the ones who stack the small reps every single day.

50 ground balls a day = over 18,000 reps a year.

100 swings a day = over 36,000 swings a year.

10 minutes on your mental game = over 60 hours a year.

15 minutes on one skill = over 90 hours of improvement.

30 extra minutes of sleep = over 180 hours of recovery.

That’s how you build a college baseball player.

Not overnight.

Not when motivation shows up.

But through daily, boring, consistent work that compounds over time.

If you want to play college baseball, start treating every day like it matters, because it does.
