Lafayette Street School Bringing Back Our Playground Parents, Students & Staff at Lafayette Street School working to Recapture the original Playground for the Well Being of the Deserving Students.

We are trying to raise awareness on the need and right for school children to play and socialize during recess. A need that is even greater in urban areas, where many school children live in apartments with no access to a yard or walking distance to a park. We are trying to change, by improving the neglected conditions of the 1/2 acre playground that serves 1,140 school children and is immorally b

eing occupied by 34 cars every day of the school year. We are trying to implement in the minds of grown ups that active social interaction is as important as math, science and reading for the proper development of every child. We are trying to beautify & return the 1/2 acre outdoor space to its proper owners, the school children; as it was intended in 1848 by the original architects and School District.
