For this occasion, .newmusic collaborated closely with and with additional graduate and undergraduate musicians to assemble a sinfonietta dedicated entirely to playing new music—the first of its kind at , with on the podium. It’s this weekend, 8pm on Sunday April 26 at Gore Recital Hall! New Music Delaware, a faculty-led initiative in music of today dedicated to performing and promoting the works of composers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, proudly presents the complete performance of “Quartet for the End of Time” (Quatuor pour la fin du Temps) (1940-41) by Olivier Messiaen, given its first premiere in Stalag VIII-a, a German Prisoner-of-War Camp in the World War II, 85 years ago.

The concert begins with the film screening of Madrid-based Colombian visual artist Juan Pablo Pacheco’s two video essays: Cuerpos Sutiles (2015) and Non Plus Ultra (2015). Join us, in person or online, for what promises to be an evening of tour de force musicianship!

We have exciting new music events coming up starting next week until the end of the semester! To kick off, next week New Music Delaware, the UD Cello and Composition Studios are very excited to welcome T.J. Borden .j.borden for his two-day residency at the ! On April 2 at 8pm in the Gore Recital Hall, Dr. Borden gives a solo cello recital of works written in this century, including a work by our own Dr. Onishi ! Dr. Onishi will also join as a clarinetist to perform a duo by Andile Khumalo. On the following day (April 3) Dr. Borden will give Cello Masterclass, as well as Composition Seminar Presentation. We hope to see you at the recital; it will be epic!
