Thursday night tech sparring with coach Dan , we love to tech spar here because it’s a safe way to effectively improve your game and fight IQ. Everything is controlled and we always make sure we have coaches watching over in case the power increases. Shout out to everybody this week who came in and worked hard. Let’s keep pushing through the summer.

You’ll see our new rules board when you walk in the gym. These aren’t really strictly for our gym, but for martial arts gyms in general. These are pretty self explanatory, and most people already follow them, but this wall serves as a reminder. We want everyone to have fun and enjoy, but we also want you to be challenged to work hard when you’re here. Our time is valuable and when we’re in the gym, it’s best spent focused on getting better. Appreciate everyone who continues to abide by these rules, and they’re enforced starting next week going forward. More to come from Kru Joe about this!
but not on a tire (L branding). We got student of the month, Mr. Nate Gregg. Nate is a staple at Chok Dee, one of the friendliest and most positive guys you can be around. He spends his time in the back room training BJJ, but he’s also a solid training partner in Muay Thai. He’s been working hard to improve and step up as a leader within the BJJ team, and we truly appreciate all the good energy he brings. Stick around to the end to hear some good wisdom he has for anyone who is on the fence about coming in!
shoutout to our guy Drew Fuska for putting together a super dope documentary on Muay Thai, showcasing our gym and some of our members here. Super grateful for everyone who has come through these doors and hearing how much Muay Thai has had an impact on you. Documentary coming out very shortly!
we’ve been working on different ranges in each different style, and playing around with using them against each other in class. Coaches, what are some drills or ways that you help get your fighters more comfortable getting better in live situations?
less of a specific technique, but some important reminders of how to spar in order to get better. Being in situations where you’re limited to just one category of striking forces you to work on your specific strikes within it. For example, there’s many different types of kicks you can use, when limited to just kicking: low kick, body kick, switch kick. This forces us to work on things we don’t normally do, thus improving our overall well rounded game. It’s uncomfortable, but uncomfortability is the only thing that makes us better!
coaches, what are your thoughts on fighters and drugs? We have a no tolerance policy for our fight team, even if it’s just smoking w**d, but we know that everybody handles it differently. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments.

This Saturday, June 6th we will be hosting Damien Alamos for a striking seminar! For those who aren’t familiar, Damien Alamos is one of the most legendary and skilled foreign fighters who fought in the Thai circuit. Multiple stadium and world champion, he fought some of the best Thai’s including Saenchai, and became the first foreigner to defend a Lumpinee title. Come with your thinking cap on to learn technique from one of the best Nak Muay’s ever, and to have some fun!
showing his flowers for this dope belly pad with an extension strap, custom for Kru Joe. We are truly blessed to have such a great community here at Chok Dee of people who care. For those who have asked for custom extension straps… we’re working on it.
Also: Delaware sparring day this Saturday from 12-2. Fighters/experienced guys from Delaware only, let’s build this great state and put ourselves on the map. It only comes from coming together.
Kru Joe goes over the long guard defense used when defending an overhand, and how to use an elbow off of it to get inside. This move is especially good when trying to work your way in from boxing distance to elbow distance. Special Thanks to Rui for demonstrating the move, and shoutout to him for all his hard work he’s put in!
