In honor of National Black History Month, we’re sharing this poem, “I Am Somebody,” written by Reverend William Holmes Borders, Sr. Reverend Jesse Jackson, who passed away today, often quoted from this poem in his speeches advocating for justice and equality—including in a notable appearance on the tv show “Sesame Street.”. The poem became an important refrain during the American Civil Rights movement. We honor the courage and clarity of both writers, Reverend Borders and Reverend Jackson, today.
