Our kindergarten-bound children had the opportunity to visit Wilmington Manor Elementary School for a special preview of what kindergarten will be like next year!
The children explored classrooms, the cafeteria, gym, playgrounds, library, and music room. They also had the chance to ask questions to a kindergarten teacher and learn more about what to expect as they begin this exciting new chapter.
We are so proud of our future kindergarteners and excited for all that is ahead for them! 🍎📚✏️

Head Start is Celebrating 61 Years Today

61 years. 40 million lives.
A teacher who knows which child needs breakfast before anything else. A parent who finally landed that job because her family service worker found the right evening classes. A home visitor who spotted the hearing problem no one else caught. A cook who remembers every allergy, every birthday, every small victory.

That's the Head Start program spirit. Not just a program—a movement of people who refuse to let zip codes determine destinies.

You've sat through IEP meetings at 7 AM. Helped families navigate systems that weren't built for them. You've written grants, fixed buses, calmed tantrums, celebrated first words, and stayed late because that's what the family needed.

You were the quiet mom at Policy Council who became the one everyone listens to. Finally had someone believe in you as much as you believed in your child. Found your voice, your strength, your path forward. Went from asking for help to showing others the way, because that's what Head Start families do.

We talk about "evidence-based outcomes" and "wraparound services." You call it Tuesday. You call it showing up. You call it believing a 4-year-old can go further than anyone in their family ever has—and proving it.

Our new Director, Lizbeth Casco White, has something to say about what's next:

Here's to 61 years of making the impossible possible – together.

State Representative Kim Williams came to NCCHS Absalom Jones and read a book to our students. She shared a personal story about friendship to our students. The students were engaged, raised their hands and shared about how many friends they have or their own siblings are their friends. She had the chance to see our Free Hair Cut event and spoke to one of the kids about sharing a toy.

We had the honor of welcoming Lieutenant Governor Kyle Evans Gay, who joined us to read The Kissing Hand to our children.
Our children were fully engaged as they listened to the story and shared in thoughtful discussion about Mama Raccoon. It was also a great opportunity to learn more about her passion for early childhood education and her support for families and educators across Delaware.

Thank you, Lieutenant Governor Kyle Evans Gay, for taking the time to inspire our young learners and for your dedication to making a difference!

✨ We had a special visitor at our center! ✨
Caption Westside! đź’™
Thanks to our partnership with Westside Health, the author of Captain Westside visited our classrooms to read a story that helps ease children’s anxiety about going to the doctor. It was such a meaningful and engaging experience for our students!
Westside Health also generously donated a book, a tooth brushing kit for every child, and copies of the story for each classroom.
We are so grateful for community partnerships that support the health, confidence, and well-being of our children! 📚

Our Claymont Kinder-Bound students had an amazing time during our annual visit to Claymont Elementary School!
They explored different classrooms, earned stickers at each stop, and filled their boards for a well-deserved chocolate chip cookie treat. So proud of our little learners!

Now enrolling for the 2026-2027 School Year

04/20/2026

Today we want to say a heartfelt thank you to our Foster Grandparent volunteer, Ms. Luz, for 23 years of service with New Castle County Head Start, Manor Park.

For more than two decades, you’ve shown up with patience, kindness, and care for our preschoolers. You’ve helped children learn, grow, and feel safe and supported, and your presence in the classroom has truly made a difference.

This kind of intergenerational partnership is so special. Our children gain a caring, consistent adult who helps them build confidence and social skills, while our seniors experience connection, purpose, and the joy of giving back in such a meaningful way.

We are so grateful for everything you’ve given to our program and our families. You are a valued part of our Head Start community, and your impact will be felt for years to come.

Thank you for 23 amazing years.
