UD faculty will be celebrating the World Cup all summer with weekly pick-up soccer games. Want to know who they're cheering for? (Part 1)

Adil Bentahar (University of Delaware English Language Institute) - 🇲🇦Morocco🇲🇦
"I’ll be cheering for Morocco because it’s where I grew up and where I first learned the values of teamwork, perseverance and community that soccer embodies. As a Moroccan now teaching in the United States, I’m especially excited to see the 2026 World Cup bring people and cultures together across borders."

David Seckel (Physics and Astronomy Department at University of Delaware) - 🇺🇸USA vs Iran🇮🇷
"It would be fun if Iran and the U.S. ran into each other, so I'm rooting for them to both finish 2nd in their groups and play on July 3 in match 88.

Catch them in action at Frazer Field behind the Little Bob on Wednesdays at 5:30 PM. 🌎🏆

Congratulations to UD Sociology & Criminal Justice doctoral students Maria Paula Mendoza, Abass Muhammed and Wei Wang on being named 2026 Graduate Community Engagement Summer Scholars.

Their projects reflect the power of social science research to address complex challenges, strengthen communities and deepen our understanding of the world around us.

From supporting Latine survivors of intimate partner violence, to examining the experiences of Black youth in Wilmington, to exploring faith and identity among Christians in China, these scholars are conducting meaningful research with real-world impact.

We are proud to see University of Delaware graduate students applying their expertise in ways that advance knowledge and serve communities.
