Before he was the “Quad God,” U.S. figure skating champion and gold medalist Ilia Malinin was part of a University of Delaware biomechanics study analyzing jump force, speed and motion — research he now puts into practice every time he lands his historic quadruple axel. ⛸️
From figure skating to ski jumping and curling, Winter Olympic sports like those in Milano Cortina showcase physics in action, where gravity drives motion and friction fights against it.⛷️
✅ UD physics professor Alfredo Sánchez discusses the physics behind these sports in UDaily:

University of Delaware researchers have developed an optical method to detect magnetic behavior of antiferromagnets, paving the way for advanced computing and quantum technologies. 🧲
The work, led by Chitraleema Chakraborty, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, appears in ACS Nano. First author is Muhammad Hassan Shaikh, a doctoral candidate in physics at UD.

University of Delaware doctoral student Siddharth Chaini received one of only 24 NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration FINESST astrophysics grants, selected from more than 450 applications. 💫
He will create a method for combining data from surveys of the night sky collected with different scientific goals in mind. The work will make it easier for scientists to analyze the data and identify astral events, or previously unknown objects.
