Newark Boys Chorus School

Our Story

For over 50 years, the Newark Boys Chorus School (NBCS) has been transforming the lives of middle school boys in the greater Newark area. Our unique educational experience teaches students the language of success and fosters a lifelong place of music in their lives. The discipline, focus and poise learned by balancing a full academic program and a rigorous performance-based music program prepare our students for future success.

We have graduated over 600 students, who continue their education at appropriate college prep high schools and almost all graduate from college. Our alumni achieve professional success in diverse industries, including law, business, education, entertainment, government and non-profit. Many alumni have attributed their success to life lessons learned at NBCS, especially through the triennial international tour. The Concert Chorus (grades six through eight) has traveled to more than 15 countries across five continents. For many, this is their first opportunity to experience life outside our region.

Each year, the Concert Chorus and Apprentice Chorus perform for an audience of more than 20,000 at more than 60 concerts, lending their voices to celebrate the community and raise awareness of important social issues.
