Left Bank Studio School

Left Bank Studio School Painting and drawing classes by Suzanne Kammin for adults and teens. The studio is architecturally inspiring.

Located in a large, bright, airy loft in Newark’s Ironbound district, just two blocks from Newark Penn Station, Left Bank Studio School offers painting and drawing courses for students who would like to develop and maintain a rigorous studio practice in a non-competitive group setting without needing to cross the Hudson River. Classes are capped at eight students to ensure a high student/teacher r

atio and enough space for each student to spread out and work comfortably and ambitiously. Suzanne Kammin Baron, the founder of Left Bank, holds a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. Suzanne brings to her teaching at Left Bank her many years of experience teaching in museum education and college art degree programs including, most notably, her more than ten years of experience teaching painting and drawing at Parsons School of Design. Classes at Left Bank combine the rigor of a degree program style of art education with Suzanne’s student-centered, compassionate approach to teaching. An intense studio experience with individualized instruction is balanced with group discussions and critiques in order to develop students’ formal and conceptual analytic skills. Suzanne’s approach to teaching is both academic and experimental; this is what separates Left Bank Studio School from other continuing education studio programs in the region. Left Bank classes go beyond the usual “faces and vases” approach of most adult education programs. Suzanne encourages each student to find his or her own unique voice informed by and that will be relevant to the diverse world of contemporary art.

A great read for learning about analyzing a visual image.

Jewish photographer Nadav Kander’s cover shot of Donald Trump seems simple enough, but look closer. There’s more to it than you might think.
