Congratulations to our PhD students who recently presented their research at the 2025 Society for Risk Analysis (SRA)

Annual Meeting in Washington, DC!
Christopher Alegbeleye, a PhD student and Research Assistant affiliated with the Disaster Research Center, presented his research on hurricane damage and loss risk modeling for manufactured housing. His work applies quantitative, data-driven methods to better understand and reduce risk for manufactured housing, which is disproportionately vulnerable to hurricane hazards.
Utkarsh Gang presented a data-driven modeling study of coupled human–infrastructure systems, examining how social vulnerability and infrastructure disruptions affect household access to critical resources during flood events.
Xiao Qian shared a framework that links households to individual buildings using synthetic population modeling, machine learning, and optimization, enabling household-level disaster risk and impact assessment.
Saurabh Mohite presented a predictive, graph-based framework for assessing disruptions to dialysis access during disasters, integrating mobility data, facility characteristics, and social vulnerability to support equitable healthcare planning.
The students were accompanied by Professor Shanghai D**g and Postdoctoral Researcher Jinya Wang, who also presented her work and actively engaged in discussions throughout the conference.
We are proud of our students and faculty for representing the department and contributing to important conversations in risk analysis, hazard resilience and disaster planning.

Some wonderful news from this year’s ASC Region 1 Competition, in Albany, NY: our team earned 2nd place, finishing just under 1% behind the winning team. The margin was exceptionally close, and the students delivered an outstanding performance. This is truly a historic moment for the UD CEM program!
Looking ahead, we are aiming even higher. Our goal is to secure first place next year, and we plan to field multiple teams across various competition tracks, creating even more opportunities for our students and the department.
Sophomore's Erik Papp, Patric Donato, Jan Gierej and Luke Ryan. Junior, Braedan Singley and Senior, John Leslie. Along with Prof. Ashish Asutosh, Prof. Ri Na and CEM Director, Prof. Aziz Banawi.
