Abington Ave. Abington Avenue School is 110 years old. Students whose home language is not English make up 70% of our population, Spanish being the dominant home language.

It is an elementary school, grades Pre-K through eight, with a population of 771 students of diverse ethnic, cultural and racial background. Of these, 13% are limited English proficiency students.Among our many accomplishments, we are proud of the fact that Abington Avenue School has reached Adequate Yearly Progress nine of the last ten years. Much of this is due to the dedication and hard work of

our teachers and staff. We have other reasons to be proud. Student attendance consistently meets or exceeds the New Jersey state average.Abington Avenue School is the only school in the Newark Public School system to have a Synergistic Lab. The Synergistic Lab is comprised of nine modules or work stations. Students work cooperatively on a variety of activities and investigations dealing with money management, robotics, audio broadcasting, engineering, flight technology, electricity, applied physics and health. Working together, we hope to continue our efforts in preparing students to acquire the skills necessary to become successful adults.
