Please join us on Thursday, April 13 at 11 am in the Mostoller Room in the Littman Library in
the Hillman College of Architecture and Design to celebrate the recent publication
of The Routledge Handbook of Urban Public Space: Use, Design, and Management edited by
Professor Emerita Karen Franck and alumnus Dr. Te-Sheng Huang.
This book answers the question of whether we are, in fact, experiencing the "end" of public space (as previous researchers have claimed) with a resounding “no”. Illuminating, supporting
evidence is drawn from observations of how urban public spaces are actually used in different countries around the world. The uses described include recreation, commerce, protest, living and
celebration. Among the contributors to the book are Professor Franck and her former student alums from the joint NJIT-Rutgers PhD Program in Urban Systems: John Jones, Chathurthi S. De Silva, Hanife Vardi Topal, Mariam Abdelazim, Fathia Elmelghawi, Han Yan, Te-Sheng Huang, Zehra Betül Atasoy, Banu Çiçek Tülü, and Maryam Hosseini.
Light refreshments will be served.
