AAC Connections

AAC Connections I consult with families on how to improve communication skills for people with Autism using assistive augmentative communication devices I may be able to help!

Do you have a loved one with communication difficulties or who you feel might benefit from using an iPad or other tablet? Have you been unable to receive funding, either from your school district or insurance provider to purchase or program a device? My name is Cara and I am a behavior specialist who has spent 10 years working with people with developmental disabilities and communication difficulties. I have a Master’s degree in School Psychology and have spent the last 4 years researching and implementing programs that have given people the chance to connect with their world. More than my credentials, I have a passion for supporting individuals with disabilities and enjoy working in collaboration with families and support teams to increase the likelihood of success. I have developed a very affordable program that is designed to be highly individualized and hands on:

4 Week Program
Cost: $200
Week 1:
• Meeting with participating family and team members to discuss individual goals, as wells as likes and dislikes that should be taken into consideration so that the programming matches the person’s individual needs and interests.
• The device will be programmed within a week of initial meeting
Week 2:
• I will work with the individual on the device to ensure that applications are appropriate and to develop teaching strategies that can be used by participating family and team members
Week 3:
• A plan is developed for team members to ensure consistency of implementation across settings, which will increase the likelihood of success
Week 4:
• A follow up meeting is held with participating team members to discuss applications and teaching strategies. Information will be presented and adjustments will be made to programming according to input from team
• Team members will have the opportunity to work with consultant while implementing strategies before continuing programming independently. The timeline has been created for efficiency, but the schedule is very flexible based on the needs of each family and support team. Meetings can be held wherever it is most convenient and comfortable for those participating. If you are interested, message here or call 856-366-5844.

Welcome to AAC connections! This is a new organization designed to assist people with Autism and the families that support them. If you have a loved one or know someone who may need assistance with programming a device for communication, social or cognitive skills, please spread the word. Each plan is individualized to meet the needs of each individual and the people who support him or her.

I have not gone public with this page just yet, but I wanted to share it with people who I trust to get the word out. If there is any interest, please pm me or send an email...Thanks in advance!
