NJIT 's Institute for Space Weather Sciences has been awarded a $5M NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration grant to open a new research center dedicated to developing the next generation of solar eruption prediction capabilities, powered by artificial intelligence.
This new AI-Powered Solar Eruption Center of Excellence in Research and Education (SEC) will partner with New York University and IBM !

NJIT's Eric Fortune and a team of scientists called “Limelight Rainforest” have won the five-year Xprize Rainforest Competition, securing half of the competition's $10 million prize purse!
The team's dramatic victory is the culmination of a global competition that began in 2019.

The University Lecturer in Biological Sciences discovered her passion for competing in triathlons 15 years ago and since has mastered the art of balancing her responsibilities at NJIT with the intense demands of triathlon training.

NJIT 's Jonas Muller (Biochemistry '27) is researching the environmental impact of antibiotic waste!
Muller's project compares the environmental waste from intravenous (IV) versus oral (PO) antibiotics. After presenting his findings at the ISPE conference in Berlin, his work was recognized as one of 20 award-winning projects, and works towards creating actionable data for healthcare providers and policymakers to minimize climate impact from such waste.

NJIT 's Yan Xu (Research Professor, Center for Solar-Terrestrial Research) and Jason Wang (Professor of Computer Science) are using AI to predict powerful solar eruptions!
Their team has been awarded a $593,864 NSF grant to develop SolarDM, an AI system that could forecast solar flares and CMEs up to three days in advance, offering new insights into solar activity and helping protect critical infrastructure on Earth.
