Teach them and they will built confident!

If your child cries at daycare drop-off or at pick up you are NOT alone. Separation anxiety is one of the most common challenges I see in babies, toddlers, and preschoolers - and while it can feel heartbreaking, it’s also a normal and healthy stage of development.

This child is showing restraint collapse in the video-crying upon reunion but it also can be a form of separation anxiety: relief and emotional floodgates seeing their caregiver. Cries likely were happening at drop off too.

Around 9 months, kids learn object permanence - the brain shift that says “Wait, you still exist even if I can’t see you?” Cue the tears when you leave the room. In toddler and preschool years, separation anxiety often shows up again during big transitions like starting daycare or school. Add in restraint collapse at pick-up - when your child finally lets the emotions out after holding it together all day - and no wonder goodbyes and reunions can feel so intense.

Here’s the truth: crying isn’t trauma. It’s a signal. With quick, confident goodbyes, predictable routines, and loving reunions, kids learn the pattern that builds trust for life: my grown-up leaves, and my grown-up comes back.

In my YouTube video, I break down:
✔️ Why separation anxiety peaks at certain ages
✔️ What’s normal vs when to get more support
✔️ Step-by-step tips to help your child (and YOU) through drop-off tears
✔️ Why sneaking out backfires - and what to do instead
