«They shall say to the elders of his city. "This son of ours is wayward and rebellious; he does not hearken to our voice: he is a glutton and a drunkard.» Devarim 21:20

The lesson for us today is clear: we must guard ourselves from becoming enslaved to our desires. Whether it's overeating, drinking, inappropriate viewing, or any other physical pleasure - when we give in repeatedly, we create chains that bind us. The Torah shows us through the ben sorer umoreh that the trajectory of uncontrolled taavah leads only to destruction. We must work on ourselves constantly, strengthen our connection to Torah and mitzvot, and never allow ourselves to become slaves to the yetzer HaRav.
