Meet Geena, one of our hardworking student lab assistants! She currently attends Eugene Lang as a senior and her major is psychology with a minor in interdisciplinary science.
As a psychology major, she has been interested specifically in neuropsychology however, she is also interested in biology from the interdisciplinary science department. Her interests stemmed from when she was in high school and took AP Psych. which she really enjoyed.
Geena explains that because she has many options for the future, she has not firmly decided on what she wants to do yet as a career. Since she studies psychology and interdisciplinary science, having a science background is important for connecting topics for real-world applications.
Working in the lab has given her the opportunity to learn about science and how a lab operates outside of the class. She further explains by saying, ”The lab experience provides me with some experience I wouldn't normally have in my classes except for my microbiology lab class”. It also gives more experience for her current lab class so she can pipette properly and streak colonies well.
After graduating, she is hoping to get a job or internship for the summer related to her studies and then applying to either graduate school or medical school. She would want to shadow someone in either schools/future careers to see if that's really what she would like to do.
