HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY (IWD)!

On March 8 each year we honor the achievements of women & promote women’s rights. Interestingly, it originated in the early 20th-century, organized by the Socialist Party of America in New York City on February 28, 1909, then across Europe when women supported the Russian Revolution. It was not until 1977 was it declared by the United Nations, in support of many women’s rights, including suffrage and as a call to action for gender equality worldwide.

LOVING KINDNESS MEDITATION PRACTICE (META) AND ANGER ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE!

Just as I do not expect my mind to be quiet as I meditate, I do not expect my anger to disappear. This is not about spiritual bypassing.

Today, and every day, I do not set goals for my practice ( ); I practice to nurture inner peace, personal and global liberation. Agency and sovereignty.

I practice so I can use my voice in myriad forms of non-violent protest ( ) as I have for decades. The anger will rise, but I practice so that the terrorists cannot steal my peace or my joy. This is how I'm dealing with the anger.

META MEDITATION (Short version) �
May all beings be free from inner and outer harm.�
May all beings be happy.�
May all beings be healthy.�May all beings live with ease.

JUST BREATHE!!!

TIME TO PAUSE, BREATHE, BRING PEACE TO THE MOMENT!
Oxygen to nurture your heart and mind, your inner peace, your creativity.

Balance the chaos. Be the peace we want to see in the world. In case I get busy and forget to pause, every day at 2 pm my Alexa reminds me with the simple message “Remember to breathe.” I pause, put my hand on my heart and take 2-3 long, slow breaths. Brings things down a notch. Feels so good. Then I can get back to whatever I was doing, creating, visioning, saying. With more attention and intention.

Yesterday, I scheduled a gathering for fellow hosts on the Mighty Networks platform, which also hosts our Breathe Sanctuary. This was my reply when someone not only RSVP’d but also posted a comment. It made me revisit why I did it and how my practice of yoga (sadhana) is so much more than asana (poses).

Below I share my response, in case you can’t read the tiny print in the header image...

“You are very welcome, Toyin. I look forward to connecting. We’re here to support each other.
It’s me, taking deep breaths and figuring out how to let go of (aparigraha), transform overwhelm or frustration into a good deed. It’s me, practicing my yoga. It’s about sangha (community), pranayama (breath control), and seva (service) 🧘🏽‍♀️ I love blending my practice into my biz.”

I am grateful to the ancestors, the ancient yogis, and my current teachers, e.g., Susanna Barkataki and Tejal Yoga (Tejal Patel), who introduced me to the ancient, Eightfold Path of Patanjali’s yoga, aka 8 limbs. 🙏🏾

We’re on hiatus. Like life, and nurture, we’re evolving.

🙏🏾 Thank you to those who have attended our weekly livestream and our Zoom virtual meditation circle. I’ve been offering these free virtual meditations for almost 12 years. I am looking forward to sharing with you again in the near future.
