Friday September 29 was National Coffee Day and the Lehman College Nutrition Club celebrated by inviting Jovita and Mark Jefferson owners of Xquisite Coffee, a family run coffee plantation established in Guatemala. Lehman students as well as staff fortunate enough to be on campus last Friday had the pleasure of obtaining a free sample of their delicious coffee, including President Cruz! If you weren't around, don't fret- Jovita and Mark are more than eager to return to Lehman College in the near future!

Chelsea Corso
Running Position: Vice President

Hi, my name is Chelsea Corso and I am running for Vice President of the Lehman College Nutrition Club. I feel that I am the best candidate for this position due to a combination of my past work experience, as well as my dedication and love of nutrition. Before enrolling at Lehman to study to become a Registered Dietitian, I worked in Finance Marketing for four years. It was there that I worked tirelessly to promote the brand across all social media platforms, videos, brochures and more, which makes me very comfortable to assume the public relations and social media responsibilities that come along with the Vice President position. While there, I also planned events spanning from small meetings in conference centers to large scale events at Yankee Stadium, so I know the hard work and attention to detail required in successfully planning and executing events. I would love the Lehman Nutrition club to gain more exposure by hosting various events and activities, around and off campus. Including, but not limited to, using the school garden to create fun recipes and snacks for students, getting great speakers to come and talk to students about the importance of eating healthy, or working with local non-profits to help change the food landscape around New York. Currently, I manage my own nutrition Instagram handle, which has over 1,500 followers in its first few months, so I believe I can drive interest, and excitement to the Lehman Nutrition club, as well as educate students through our various social media channels. I am extremely passionate about food and nutrition, and I believe that my hard work ethic, experience with social media and events, as well as genuine desire to help others will make me very successful in the Vice President role. Thank you for your vote!

Shantavia Inabinet
Running Position: President

Shantavia Inabinet is a Sophomore and graduate from class of Spring 2017 Intro to Leadership Program. She’s passionate about Holistic Health & Wellness and is majoring in Community Health Nutrition and the owner of a 3 year old blog; which focuses on holistic health and beauty. Her personal goals are to own a wellness center and travel the world to help people to heal using food , spirituality, yoga, and being in nature. With her degree plus the five years of college administrative experience, she is confident she will succeed. In her free time, she volunteers at food pantries and does arts and crafts projects. Her goals for the club is to help spread awareness about nutrition to the Lehman College community, give members the opportunity to develop or enhance their leadership skills, be a place where members can unwind and make connections with like minded people, and to collaborate with other clubs that have similar goals.

Danielle Peterkin
Running Position: Treasurer

My name is Danielle Peterkin, I'm a junior and transfer to Lehman from NYCCT. I used to be a fashion marketing major, but I decided to change to work in health-related fields. I became more health conscious about a year ago, when I felt that I was at a very low point in my life; emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually I was badly affected. Once making a turn around, and while learning about healthy living and the essentials, I gotten more serious with how I lived my life overall. I didn't know exactly how I could help others as I helped myself, when I got some guidance into learning nutrition and dieting. I felt this was perfect to get into, since I became vegan around the same time of my turn around and started promoting fitness and wellness living.
I want to become treasurer because not only I want to assist in growing funds for the club and its activities, but to also, with some new things the club could facilitate, create times where we can get the student body's attention of where we can do demonstrations of different meals and exercise, as well as promotional events of where we could cater for other clubs and whatever event they could be holding. Fundraising as well to help keep the campus garden going (which I was a bit familiar about), and could also give counseling in nutrition from what we learn to others as well (free or by tip). However, I really just want to help the students and the community to have a sense of how well to live optimally by diet and exercise. The main source, I believe, for almost all health problems is what people eat, so helping my community in protesting healthy living is my main goal.
