Fact 2 of 12: Laminectomy — When Removing Bone Actually Helps A laminectomy sounds intense, but it’s one of the most direct ways to relieve pressure from a pinched nerve. By removing a small section of bone, we create space for the nerve to breathe again — often leading to immediate symptom relief. It’s a simple concept with a big impact… and one of the most common spine procedures I perform for lumbar stenosis. ⸻

Fact 5- DISC HERNIATION What it is: A disc herniation happens when the soft center of a spinal disc pushes out through the outer layer and irritates a nearby nerve. Why it hurts: It’s not the disc itself — it’s the chemical and mechanical irritation of the nerve, which is why patients feel arm pain or leg pain more than back pain. Key misconception (important): Not all disc herniations need surgery. In fact, most improve with time, physical therapy, or injections. When surgery matters: Surgery becomes a real discussion when pain is severe, persistent, or there’s progressive weakness, numbness, or loss of function.
🎄 12 Days of Spine Surgery — Fact #4 This isn’t a drill- It’s piezoelectric!!! 😳🤷♂️ Ultrasonic vibration cuts bone while helping protect nerves, all based on the physics of how different tissues respond to energy. New blade. New motion. Different outcome.
Day 3 of 12- Pinched nerves occur at the tunnels where the nerves come off of the spine- these are the foramen! It’s usually or a that is compressing the nerve!
