6/9/2020 Update from AAMC:
The AMCAS team would like to correct some misinformation we have seen recently online and on social media.
Medical School Admissions
Schools understand the many challenges faced by applicants during this cycle and are aware of the AMCAS processing timelines. They are taking into consideration the delays in MCAT scores and transcripts while developing their internal processes and acknowledge the need to remain flexible during the application process. Please review the Medical School Admission Requirements and Participating Medical Schools and Deadlines for updates provided by medical schools.
Application Processing
Earlier this week, the AAMC office building was damaged during protests in Washington, DC. Thankfully, no one was injured, and the building is now secure. This incident has not caused any delays in the processing of AMCAS applications. AMCAS staff have been working remotely since the middle of March and have processes in place for operational adjustments.
Please note that due to the rapidly changing environment, AMCAS verification may take up to eight weeks for the 2021 cycle. Currently, verification of submitted applications are tracking ahead of this timeline. You will receive application status updates via email and we will continue to post daily processing updates to our Twitter feed () and on our website.
Transcripts
To avoid processing delays, AMCAS developed expanded solutions with undergraduate institutions to accept transcripts. Please follow instructions on your registrar’s webpage or contact your registrar directly for more information. AMCAS is accepting and processing transcripts that are submitted electronically, by email, fax, and regular mail.
AMCAS is retrieving paper transcripts from the PO Box (listed on the transcript request form) – please do not send paper transcripts to any alternate address. Please review processing timelines, as mailed transcripts take longer to receive and process than other methods. You will receive an email once your transcript is processed and has been marked “Received.” We will post transcript processing timelines updates to our Twitter feed () and on our website .
Please come to the AAMC for the latest information. We will continue to provide updates on our website, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and AMCAS page, and Twitter feed ().
We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy during this time. Please feel free to contact the AAMC Services Contact Center at [email protected] or (202) 828-0600 if you have any questions about completing your application. Please note they are experiencing higher than expected volume and working diligently to answer your inquiries as quickly as possible and ask for your patience.
Warm regards,
AMCAS Outreach

4/23/2020 ANNOUNCEMENT FROM AAMC:
The AAMC strongly believes that the various costs associated with applying to medical school should not be a barrier. We are especially committed to helping aspiring physicians navigate the process during these especially challenging times.
Due to these unprecedented times, the AAMC has adjusted the eligibility criteria for our Fee Assistance Program. In 2020, applicants will be awarded Fee Assistance Program benefits if each household reported on their application has a 2019 total family income that is 400 percent or less than the 2019 national poverty level for that family size (previously set at 300 percent or less).
We have communicated with previously denied Fee Assistance Program applicants who may now be eligible for benefits under the new criteria. Additionally, there are new procedures in place which may assist applicants experiencing financial hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic. Learn more:

Please share this information through your channels and if you have any questions, please call (202) 828-0600 or email [email protected].

4/20/2020 AAMC UPDATE:
The AAMC, with input and feedback from the admissions community, has decided to delay transmitting AMCAS applicant data to medical schools by two weeks.
At this time, we intend to open the AMCAS application as planned on May 4, and this transmission delay – moving from June 26 to July 10 – will give applicants additional time to complete their applications during this rapidly changing situation due to coronavirus (COVID-19). We do not expect this two-week delay to impact AMCAS operations, including application processing and verification.
Many schools are updating their policies and timelines daily. Please check Medical School Admission Requirement (MSAR) for those changes.
Please visit the AAMC Services Coronavirus page and AMCAS Coronavirus FAQs for more information and regular updates.

Update from AAMC:
We are actively working to identify and add new test appointments as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds and national, state, and local health authorities release updated guidance. We know how difficult this uncertain time is for medical school applicants, and we are working as quickly as possible to finalize the reopening of the testing calendar.
Below is an update on our progress:
We are adding 3 new dates to the 2020 MCAT testing calendar.
We will be adding morning and afternoon testing sessions on exam days and will provide more details in future updates.
We will implement health and safety measures at the test centers when testing resumes, including social distancing practices.
We will expedite MCAT score reporting for some test dates to reduce the impact of delayed score delivery on students’ applications to medical schools.
The MCAT Registration System is unavailable for scheduling while new dates are added. We will announce in advance plans to reopen the system.

Sent on behalf of Dr. Edgar A. Arriaga, Chairperson, ACS Committee on Professional Training---
Safety is a core value of the American Chemical Society and as such the health and well-being of students and faculty members in our community is paramount. Many of you have reached out to the ACS Committee on Professional Training to inquire about virtual labs, lab hours, and concerns about your status as an approved institution. The use of virtual labs will be allowed for institutions that have chosen to move all instruction online as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and will not affect the approval status of a program. We understand that this is a stressful time for faculty and students and want to do what we can to assist during this time of uncertainty. Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].
