Join us September 10 & 12–13 for the World Premiere of “Curriculum IV: Spin and Spin! Turn! Turn! Turn!”

Bill T. Jones and the Company have been in process this summer with Composer Samora Pinderhughes for the creation of a new work 🤍

The Company was set to premiere a new work presented by LMCC on September 12, 2001…Now 25 years later, LMCC has invited Bill to make another work in response to our current American moment. Bill T. Jones’s new work concludes LMCC’s 25th Annual River To River Festival and blends striking choreography and a live original score to powerfully weave together reflections on loss, love, freedom, and resilience.

We are just one month out from our World Premiere by Bill T. Jones!

Our new work “Curriculum IV: Spin and Spin! Turn! Turn! Turn!” concludes LMCC’s 25th Annual River To River Festival and blends striking choreography and a live original score by acclaimed composer and multidisciplinary artist Samora Pinderhughes to powerfully weave together reflections on loss, love, freedom, and resilience. Our “Curriculum” series originated in reference to a quote from Cameroonian historian and political theorist Achille Mbembe in a 2018 interview, in which he proposed an archive-expanding “planetary curriculum.” Taking inspiration from this idea, Bill T. Jones has now created three (and with this, his fourth) “Curriculum” works colliding formal exploration with urgent contemporary questions. The multi-work pursuit takes a protean approach to asking, as he describes, “What does a contemporary progressive person have to know to live and work efficiently and morally in the world today?”

“The (a) Point Between 2 (or more) Confessions” premieres tonight at ImPulsTanz in Vienna!

Raja Feather Kelly invited Bill T. Jones to create a new work for him! Bill’s exciting and rousing solo for Raja explores love, memory, survival, and the future, continuing their ongoing artistic exchange. It features protest songs from the 1960s alongside lyrics by Raja and Bill, including excerpts from Bill’s autobiography, “Last Night on Earth.”

Happy NYC Pride Weekend! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 If you’re looking to get out of the city this Pride and summer, we recommend Trailblazers Park in Fire Island Pines harbor! Bill T. was named one of this season’s esteemed Trailblazers - he is one in a group of individuals honored this with a commemorative banner flag. His flag was photographed and designed by fellow trailblazing artist, Lola Flash!

Bill was unable to attend the ceremony and requested our Communications Director and Pride Curator Tyler Ashley to represent him for the celebratory unveiling and read his remarks at the ceremony. In beautiful Bill fashion, he was still able to get the crowd singing in solidarity.

We shall overcome! 🌈✨

Thank you to the brilliant Lola Flash for creating this beautiful tribute, and to FIPPOA and FIP Trailblazer’s Park for honoring Bill’s enduring contributions to dance and social justice!
