Happy Spring! Last weekend, Gifting Sense presented a webinar at the Council for Economic Education’s Educator Bootcamp.
The recording is now available on EconEdLink (already one of their most popular webinars and still climbing), and educators can earn professional development credit just for watching 🎓.
Whether you’re in the classroom, running an after-school program, or raising a money-smart kid at home, everything we do is designed to make mindful spending feel as natural as looking both ways before you cross the street.
Simple, practical money habits for kids — that become as automatic and protective as checking for traffic. 🚸

We’re grateful for strong educator engagement with our mindful spending tool. 🙏
Last month, we partnered with the Council for Economic Education to deliver a live demo of the DIMS – DOES IT MAKE SENSE?® Score Calculator.
Our webinar, “Start 2026 With Smart Spending Habits,” is currently featured as the most-viewed teacher professional development session on EconEdLink this month (see screenshot).
The session shows educators how to guide students through real purchasing decisions—clarifying priorities, weighing trade-offs, comparing options, and deciding whether a purchase truly “makes sense.”
Students generate a clear, shareable summary of their reasoning, helping turn spending conversations at home or in the classroom into calmer, more thoughtful discussions grounded in visible thinking.
The full webinar is available to watch on demand (free with registration), and participants receive a PD certificate upon completion.
Curious? Watch it here (the CEE handles registration, which only requires an email address): https://econedlink.org/webinar/start-2026-with-smart-spending-habits/

Late last year, a Grade 4 class at Grand Avenue Elementary put mindful spending into action. 💡
Using the DIMS - DOES IT MAKE SENSE?® SCORE Calculator, students researched Christmas gifts they were hoping for—digging into real costs, use, and value.
Many later reported back that they received the item they truly wanted. 🎁
That’s the power of thinking before buying. ⚡️
Teaching kids how to pause, ask questions, and uncover the hidden costs of a purchase helps them make smarter decisions—not just during the holidays, but for life.
As one parent shared:
“This is fantastic! So relevant. Thank you for bringing this important conversation to the class.”
Curious how it works?Try the DIMS SCORE® Calculator today! It’s permissionless (no registration, login or paywall), and easy to use. Learn how here: https://giftingsense.org/how-it-works/

You asked — we’re answering!
We’ve been asked exactly what to say when giving kids (your own, nieces, nephews, or grandkids) money as a gift, so that it feels thoughtful ❤️ and intentional.
We made a reel with the answer:
“Merry Christmas! This card has cash in it. Before you spend it, I’d like to show you something helpful…”
That simple opening turns the gift of money into a shared moment — and opens the door to a conversation about values, choices, and shopping confidence.
Show them the DIMS – DOES IT MAKE SENSE?® SCORE Calculator — a free, safe, mindful spending tool that helps kids slow down and think through a purchase before they spend their money, or anyone else’s!
Sit down together (or hop on Zoom) and try it with something they’re interested in buying. Walk one or two purchases through, so your young people know how use it anytime — on their own.
There’s also a short demo video on the “How It Works” page if anyone ever needs a refresher.
The goal isn’t to say no.
It’s to help kids choose what’s really worth the wait — and build strong consumer decision-making skills along the way.
At Gifting Sense, we help parents and extended family teach kids to think before they buy — building financial confidence one thoughtful decision at a time.
Because learning how to be good with money may be one of the best gifts 🎁 a young person can ever receive.

Buying gift cards for your family this holiday season?
Gift cards sound good… until you realize the purchasing power is locked up. 🔒
There’s $23B+ in unused gift cards in the U.S. alone — money families meant to spend wisely but never actually got value from.
Plus, gift cards don’t teach the life skills kids truly need:
💡 Thoughtful decision-making
💡 Understanding trade-offs
💡 Total cost awareness
At Gifting Sense, we help kids build lifelong money confidence by learning to pause, gather information, and think before they buy.
Instead of giving store credit, consider sharing a free tool that helps families avoid waste, improve harmony, and choose gifts that actually get used:
✨ The DIMS — DOES IT MAKE SENSE?® — Score Calculator ✨
When kids learn to make thoughtful choices, nothing gets wasted — including your money.
🔓 Free your gifting. 💪Empower their future. All at once!

“He’s devoted to this goal—and it shows!” 🎤
This 4th-grader has been saving since last summer for a dream trip to the World Cup next year. Along the way, he’s been exercising all sorts of muscles, chief among them the idea that patience and planning can make big dreams possible.
His mother sent us this photo of him filling in his “Worth the Wait Goal Tracker,” which has held a proud spot on the fridge since August.
Does a young person in your life have a special purchase you’d be excited to H-E-L-P them reach?

As we head into the biggest spending weekend of the year, you might like your family to meet another “Coach K!” 😂
The first Coach K did far more than win championships 🏀 —
He helped young people build character — and the life skills that support it.
So does ours. ⚡ She helps kids discover the power of taking a quick pause before making a purchase.
Because winning the money game is often just about giving yourself a moment to think.
That pause builds confidence.💡
It helps young people make choices they feel good about, today and in the future. 🤗
And thinking before buying is something parents and educators can easily help young people practice.
This , maybe the best gift we can pick up isn’t a purchase at all — but a habit that lasts.

At Gifting Sense, we believe one simple habit can make a lifetime of difference — thinking before buying.
Thanks to and his team at The Money Mammals, powered by The Art of Allowance, for an extended conversation about the work we do and why we do it.
Our permissionless (kitchen-table and classroom-ready) tools make it fun and easy to teach mindful spending.
They help young people pause… gather information…and reflect on what really matters to them and their families — in just minutes, before anyone spends a dime.
They turn impulse into insight, helping young people discover that they have the power to shape their own future — as John and Karen discuss, that sense of agency is a game-changer! 💡
