Point Made Learning

Point Made Learning PML is dedicated to educating individuals and organizations on the topics of race and inclusion. We offer workshops, film screenings and speaking engagements.

Point Made Learning uses documentary film to facilitate productive discussions around the most uncomfortable topics we face in American society - starting with racism. Point Made Learning offers hands on learning experiences for schools and organizations that want to have real conversations surrounding the topics of race, diversity, equity and inclusion. Our unique American Dream Game remodels the conventional board game transforming it into a powerful lesson on bias, stereotypes, discrimination, and systemic inequity. We tell true stories and teach powerful lessons about issues that matter.

It's that time of the year, movie season! Around here, we love a good story. ⠀
⠀
Most films keep you interested until they're done, and then, pretty quickly, you forget about them.

But a really good film? Well, that's different. It starts changing you as you're watching it, inspires you, and stays with you long after it's ended.⠀
⠀

We are excited to announce the addition of the documentary 'Virtually Free' to our fall and winter programming. There are a limited number of workshop slots available with the director this fall and winter -- secure your date today!

Why is this film important?
👉Every year, about 300,000 kids are confined in youth detention in the US, limiting their potential to succeed in life.
👉70-80% will be re-arrested within 2 or 3 years of being released
👉Nearly ⅔ will never complete high school.

Richmond, Virginia's families, police, judges, artists, and activists have united in changing this in their community. This film is a documentary about unlikely allies who partner to transform the juvenile justice system and stop mass incarceration. Produced by the non-profit media company Shine Global, the 40-minute documentary Virtually Free is directed by André Robert Lee.

✔️Now booking summer and fall workshops with director André Robert Lee, including screenings of this awarding-winning documentary! Virtual and in-person options are available. Contact us at [email protected] to secure your date.

The news can be overwhelming, and often even though we want to help, we don't.

👉We love it when outlets like put together articles that lay out actionable steps that can make a difference.

None of us will save the world from pain, racism, inequity, or suffering from one action, but we can collectively make an impact by taking one step.

If you have been watching the news coverage on Afghanistan and are looking for ways to help, we encourage you to head over to NPR and check out their article, "The Simple Steps You Can Take Right Now To Help Afghan Refugees" by DEEPA SHIVARAM

The 'emotional residue' attached to work and life circumstances can lead to burnout. Is this something that resonates with you?

As a small team working to help communities talk about uncomfortable subjects while the realities of the latest newsreel play in the background, we empathize with those who might be struggling.

These days we are permitting ourselves to pause when needed. This helps us to be fully present to our clients and each other.

Keep going! Your voice matters. But don't forget to pause when needed.
