Italian American Women of Staten Island

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, a Street Dedication Ceremony was held at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, honoring Italian-American heritage. IAW of SI members,Connie De Francesco and Dr. Marilyn Verna attended, with Connie standing by the monument of Antonio Meucci. The ceremony included an invocation, remarks from NYC Councilwoman; Kamillah Hanks and GMM President/CEO/Chairperson Commissioner; Joseph Sciame, patriotic anthems, words from District Attorney of Staten Island; Michael McMahon, and concluded with the unveiling of new street signs.🇮🇹🇺🇸💚🤍❤️🤍💙

What a fun evening at our Italian-American Women’s meeting tonight! We enjoyed a wonderful chair yoga session with our instructor, Genevieve Giles, who had everyone feeling motivated, relaxed, and moving.

A great time was had by all! 💚🤍❤️

My names is Dina Marie Zagari and I'm currently completing my doctoral dissertation at the College of Staten Island (CUNY), and my study focuses on the experiences of Italian American women from Staten Island — specifically how identity, culture, family tradition, and assimilation have shaped our lives over time.

I’m looking to speak with 4–7 women who may be interested in participating in one oral history interview for this study.

I’m especially hoping to connect with women who:

identify as Italian American
are from Staten Island (or were raised there)
have roots in Italian family/cultural traditions
have held some kind of leadership role in their profession, family, community, church, school, business, or civic life

This project is deeply interested in preserving and honoring the stories of Italian American women — stories that often hold so much history, complexity, strength, and cultural meaning.
