Harmony Program A nonprofit organization delivering high-quality music education to youth throughout New York City Today, the organization is independent.

Anne Fitzgibbon founded the Harmony Program in 2003 as a privately funded project within the New York City Mayor's Office. After a successful pilot period, the Harmony Program was incorporated as an independent non-profit organization in 2004 and in 2008 entered into a formal partnership with the City University of New York (CUNY) to foster growth and sustainability. The Harmony Program is inspired by Venezuela's world-renowned system of music education, "El Sistema," which the Harmony Program's founder studied during a yearlong Fulbright Fellowship. While there are nearly 100 "El Sistema"-inspired efforts in the country today, the Harmony Program is arguably the first United States-based model inspired by Venezuela's approach.

On August 7, the Harmony Program Summer Camp was delighted to welcome pianist Albert Cano Smit for a special performance and conversation with our students at Juilliard’s Paul Hall! 🎹
Albert is a Spanish-Dutch pianist whose artistry, captivating performances, and storytelling have earned him recognition as one of today's leading young musicians. A winner of the 2019 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions and the 2017 Naumburg Piano Competition, he has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras including the Seattle Symphony, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Orchestra of St. Luke's, and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra.
An accomplished recitalist and chamber musician, Albert has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, and other distinguished concert halls around the world. A passionate advocate for collaboration and contemporary music, he has premiered works by leading composers and performed alongside acclaimed artists including Anthony Trionfo, William Hagen, Lun Li, Pinchas Zukerman, and Zlatomir Fung.
We thank Albert for sharing his musicianship and love of music with our campers. His performance and conversation inspired our students to approach music with curiosity, creativity, and confidence as they continue their own musical journeys.

We're thrilled to have been featured by NY1 for the 2026 Harmony Program Summer Camp at The Juilliard School! 🎶

This summer, more than 525 young musicians from across New York City are participating in our free, 3-week immersive music program, where they are building musical skills, participating in instrumental and choral ensembles, learning from exceptional teaching artists and guest performers, and discovering the joys of collaborative music-making and artistic growth!

The Harmony Program Summer Camp was delighted to welcome Steinway pianist Vanessa Perez and pianist, composer, and arranger Stephen Buck on August 6 for a special performance and conversation with our students at Juilliard! 🎶
Vanessa and Stephen are longtime artistic collaborators (and husband and wife) whose performances celebrate the connections between classical music, folk traditions, jazz, literature, and storytelling. Vanessa, a Venezuelan-American pianist, has performed at many of the world's leading concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and the Sydney Opera House, and is celebrated for bringing Latin American music to audiences around the globe. Stephen is a pianist, composer, and arranger whose innovative work has been featured on stages worldwide, creating imaginative concert experiences that bridge musical genres and bring new perspectives to classical performance.
Together, Vanessa and Stephen have developed groundbreaking programs that blend music with poetry, history, and culture, collaborating with acclaimed artists including Bill Murray, Jan Vogler, Philippe Quint, and Kristhyan Benítez. Through their performances, arrangements, and original compositions, they demonstrate how musical collaborations can transcend boundaries, foster meaningful connections, and celebrate the vibrant diversity of artistic traditions.
We are so grateful to Vanessa and Stephen for sharing their extraordinary artistry, creativity, and collaborative spirit with our campers. The Harmony Program Summer Camp was delighted to welcome guitarist, songwriter, producer, and Cheo (José Luis Pardo) for a wonderful performance and conversation with our students at Juilliard on August 5! 🎸
Cheo is a Latin Grammy-winning artist best known for his roles as founder and creative director of the acclaimed dance-funk band Los Amigos Invisibles. For over thirty years, he has built an international career as a performer, producer, songwriter, and collaborator, blending funk, soul, disco, Afro-Latin rhythms, and electronic music. Cheo has also collaborated with musicians across genres while continuing to mentor the next generation of Latin artists.
Thank you to Cheo for sharing your remarkable musical abilities and passion with our campers. During his Q&A, he encouraged students to embrace a sense of playfulness and fun throughout their journeys, reminding us to keep creativity and connection at the heart of music-making.
