🌟 Medical Champion Spotlight: Dr. Suanne Kowal-Connelly 🌟

Dr. Suanne Kowal-Connelly, Director of Pediatrics and Pediatric Clinical Quality at Harmony Healthcare Long Island, has been a passionate Reach Out and Read champion since joining the program one year ago and was honored with the 2025 New Champion Coordinator Award! 📚👏

One of her favorite moments was when a young patient received a book and excitedly asked, “This is for me to keep?!” 💙 A simple but powerful reminder of the joy books can bring.

Dr. Kowal-Connelly believes books are powerful tools for promoting literacy, strengthening early relationships, and supporting healthy development. Her favorite to share is Goodnight Moon, a story she once read to her own children and now continues to share with families in the exam room. 🌙📖

In honor of , is sharing tips for parents and caregivers on how books can help children cope with stress and big emotions.

Reading together can be a powerful way to support a child’s mental health, build connection, and create moments of comfort and calm.
