ACLA 2014 Annual Meeting » Decapitation (Undergraduate Seminar)
What is decapitation? What does it mean to “lose ones head”? Why have acts of beheading” and visions of the “headlessness” haunted human history? If the Latin word for “head” [Caput] is the root of all CAPITALS, how can we think about CAPITALS by way of DECAPITATION?

----- Hannah Arendt:: A Film by Margarethe von Trotta-----
Trailer, theater and other information: http://www.zeitgeistfilms.com/hannaharendt/
page: https://www.facebook.com/hannaharendtmovie
Hannah Arendt is directed by the renowned German director Margarethe von Trotta and stars the great actress Barbara Sukowa. The film has received rave reviews in Germany and has done very well at various film festivals here. It is the culmination of years of careful research in consultation with experts and scholars. As you know, Hannah Arendt and her Banality of Evil theory are quite controversial -- many people were outraged when her articles about the Eichmann trial appeared in The New Yorker. The film takes place during that time, with William Shawn, Mary McCarthy and The New Yorker playing prominent roles.

Dear Complitters –
We have an opening for one front desk job student worker for next year. This job involves general “office” work PLUS you would be our departmental webmaster – you’d be in charge of making all updates/edits on our web site. We use a web software package; knowledge of HTML is not required. However, applicants must have decent computer/tech savvy and, of course, it would be a plus if you’ve worked on web sites before. The split of this job between regular office work and web work is about 50/50.
Hours: 13-14 hours/wk scheduled around your classes. (No work, of course, during regular NYU breaks)
Pay: $10/hr
I’m happy to say, our front desk student workers have always enjoyed the front desk jobs. As a Comp Lit major it would put you in the middle of Comp Lit to see what goes on in the department, to get to know faculty, to be around for extra reception food! Also, your CL desk becomes a handy on campus “spot of your own/with computer.” Our student workers are here much more than their regular work hours, using the computer, taking care of their own lives.
IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN THIS POSITION & WILL BE HERE FOR BOTH TERMS NEXT YEAR, EMAIL YOUR RESUME TO ME BY NEXT MONDAY, APRIL 15. Current Freshman, Sophomore and Junior CL majors are all welcome to apply! Then we’ll see about meeting and talking about the job.
One more thing: SUMMER FRONT DESK JOB! The ideal arrangement would be for this academic year “webmaster” to want to work for us this summer, too. That way you’d get a head start on working with our web site. Our summer job is 8-10 wks of the summer, 14 hours/wk, $10/hr. Of course not wanting to work for us this summer isn’t a deal-breaker. Feel free to send me your resume even if it’s only for the academic year position.
