Last week, a group of students from the Class of 2026 took part in the annual Senior Retreat. The retreat offered an opportunity for individual reflection and group activities that encouraged the soon-to-be-graduates to examine their own selves, their relationships with others, and their relationships with God. The retreat also called them to look back on their four years at Regis and consider the ways that they’ve grown as they prepare for college.

On this Memorial Day, we remember all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country. We pray in a special way for the members of the Regis community who have died while serving in the military, including the alumni who lost their lives during World War II and are remembered on this plaque in our Chapel of the Sacred Heart.

The inaugural year of the Latin Research Project culminated earlier today with the first LRP Symposium. Nine students who studied with Latin teacher Mr. David Bonagura ’99 P’25’28 in addition to their regular course load were examined by a panel of experts on selections from St. Augustine’s “The City of God.” Meanwhile, two students presented work they’ve done this year with Patrick J. Burns ’94, an associate research scholar working on computational approaches to Latin literature at NYU’s Institute for the Study of the Ancient World. Those students discussed their work contributing annotations for digital editions of “The City of God,” helping to identify people, places, and groups mentioned in the text to disambiguate entities with similar names.
Joining Burns as examiners were Matt McGowan ’89, an associate professor of Classics at Fordham University, and Jason Pedicone, president and co-founder of the Paideia Institute, a non-profit dedicated to promoting the study and appreciation of the classical humanities.
