Our keynote speaker, Ms. Bratati Ghosh, has always believed in the power of technology to transform lives. Bratati is a passionate advocate for Education. For the last twenty years, Bratati has been looking for a way to bring the incredible scalable power of digital technologies to benefit those left behind in traditional economies.
Only in the last few years did the internet become available directly to young people in socioeconomically disadvantaged communities in India via smartphones. Accordingly, Bratati founded Turn the Bus (https://turnthebus.org/) with a mission to "Reduce income inequality sustainably by promoting educational equality with the help of smartphones."
Turn the Bus's educational content and technology is available via smartphones to everyone - and the App has currently enrolled over 100,000 young girls and boys aged 15-25 in families making around $2 a day. On-demand videos tailor-made to enhance the present curriculum in Arts and Science are available today. Further content creation for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics Theory for Classes 11-12 is underway, soon to be followed by on-demand remote virtual labs based on AR/VR [Artificial Reality/Virtual Reality] technology.
Ms, Ghosh received her Bachelor's degree (BTech) in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1992 and a Post Graduate degree in Management (equivalent to an MBA) from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in 1994. She found a career in eCommerce to be both fun and fulfilling, and a fantastic learning ground for how human behavior changes dramatically as the Internet and technology revolutionize the world.
