The Churchill School and Center
Welcome to the page for the Churchill School and Center! Our educators walk alongside young people on the journey to discover their unique strengths.
At the Churchill School and Center, we know how to help every child have a great day at school. Every day, we share our deep expertise with students and families who navigate life through the lens of a language-based learning difference. Our 5th and 6th Grade End-of-Year Showcase was a celebration of creativity, growth, and community. The morning began with a performance of songs by David Byrne and the Talking Heads, accompanied by student musicians. After the concert, families explored student work from across the year, including the 5th graders’ Inspirational Trophies created in Art and the imaginative games students designed for the Cardboard Arcade, which visitors were invited to play.
The day also marked a special milestone for our 6th graders as they participated in their Moving Up Ceremony. Surrounded by family, friends, and faculty, students reflected on their Lower School journey and celebrated their accomplishments as they prepare to begin the next chapter in Upper School. The festivities continued with a fun-filled luau celebration, making for a joyful end to the school year. Congrats, everyone!

What a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the school year! Yesterday, our 1st–4th Grade students welcomed families for their End-of-Year Showcase, sharing the creativity, growth, and accomplishments that made this year so special.
Families enjoyed a lively performance of Stevie Wonder songs, explored an impressive student art show, visited classrooms, and participated in engaging STEAM and science activities, including trying out 3D-printed bubble wands in the garden.
Thank you to our students, teachers, and families for making this celebration such a memorable one. We are so proud of all that our students have accomplished this year, and we hope you are too!

The Churchill School and Center is proud to announce that Jackson M. ’27 has been recognized by the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) and InnerView in the Eighth Annual Community Service Impact Awards. The Kroger Co. is presenting the seventh annual Zero Hero Awards to students for taking action to help create communities free of hunger and waste.
The Community Service Impact Awards program connects student service to real-world outcomes, skill development, and community needs. This year, Jackson was part of a nationwide effort of high school changemakers who collectively invested more than 2.3 million hours of service, equivalent to $78 million in community impact, addressing critical local and global challenges.
“This recognition reflects more than participation; it represents the time, care, and commitment these students are putting into causes that matter to them,” says Kristine Sturgeon, CEO of InnerView. “It’s an honor to support and amplify their work. They’re not only creating impact today, they’re building the skills and confidence that will shape how they lead and contribute for the rest of their lives.”
Congratulations, Jackson!

This spring, our 5th Grade students brought creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving to life through Churchill’s annual Cardboard Arcade, a beloved STEAM tradition inspired by Caine’s Arcade. They have been prepping for months, using recycled materials to work together and imagine and build their own classic arcade-style games, thinking creatively and engineering unique solutions along the way.
The excitement culminated when other Lower School students were invited to play the handmade games during a school-wide arcade event run entirely by Grade 5 students. From teamwork and cooperation to innovation and imagination, students showcased impressive STEAM skills while having a blast.
In the spirit of giving back, this year’s arcade bake sale also raised funds for Billion Oyster Project, a nonprofit dedicated to restoring oyster reefs in New York Harbor through community partnerships.

Last week, Churchill hosted its first-ever Film Festival, celebrating the creativity, talent, and storytelling of our Upper School student filmmakers! Families, students, and faculty gathered to enjoy an impressive showcase of films from Filmmaking Fundamentals, Lights, Camera, Action, Animation, Documentary, and Advanced Filmmaking classes.
The evening also featured a live Q&A with our Documentary and Advanced Filmmaking students, giving audience members a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process and inspiration behind their work.
A special thank you to Churchill’s Service Learning Council for selling snacks, drinks, candy, and flowers throughout the evening in support of Popcorn for the People.

Earlier this month, Churchill’s 8th grade students traveled to Washington, D.C. for an unforgettable class trip filled with learning, reflection, and fun. Students explored some of the nation’s most historic landmarks and memorials, including the WWII, Vietnam, Korean War, FDR, MLK, Lincoln, and Jefferson Memorials. The group also visited the White House, toured the Holocaust Memorial Museum, and stopped at the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial before heading home.
Beyond the sightseeing, students enjoyed time together over dinner outings, bowling, and memorable moments with classmates and teachers. The trip was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect, learn, and create lasting memories together.
