My name is Alyssa Janof and I am the NASW Member Associate for our school. The NASW is our profession's largest membership association with 132,000 members. The NASW works to enhance professional growth and help its members grow and maintain our professional standards. As a future social worker, it is vital to be a part of this association and to have the opportunity to create the connections and opportunities for professional development. I am hoping to enroll new members so look out for our table. We will also be offering great speakers for lunch and learns.

Look out for announcements and cool opportunities on this page.

For any questions please feel free to contact me or stop me in the halls. [email protected]

For those who have not already heard, the Wurzweiler community has suffered a great loss. This past weekend, Dr. Carmen Ortiz Hendricks has passed away. The following is from President Richard M. Joel:

Dear members of the YU Community,

I am saddened to inform you of the passing of Dr. Carmen Ortiz Hendricks, the Dorothy and David I. Schachne Dean of the Wurzweiler School of Social Work.

Dean Hendricks joined Wurzweiler in 2005 as professor of social work and associate dean. I had the great privilege of appointing her dean in 2012, when she became the first Latina dean of a New York City social work school.

As dean, she upheld the values of the profession both by example, and in her depth of caring and commitment for students and the broader community. She was an accomplished scholar, and was adored by her colleagues and pupils. Carmen was that rare combination of warmth and rigor - the sun shone more brightly on Yeshiva University with her presence. She taught us all and will be missed.

Dr. Nancy Beckerman, member of the Wurzweiler faculty for more than 25 years, will serve as interim dean.

On behalf of Yeshiva University, I would like to express my sincerest condolences to her beloved husband, James, and her entire family.

Richard M. Joel
President
Bravmann Family University Professor
