The NCL lab is recruiting for a study! We need young scientists ages 10-12 to help us understand what goes on in the brain when we read. Reach out to us via email ([email protected]) or phone (212-678-7403) if you know a child who would be interested, and be sure to spread the word!
Neurocognition of Language Lab
The Neurocognition of Language Lab is a multidisciplinary brain research lab at Teachers College, Columbia University.
The Neurocognition of Language Lab conduct experiments examining the neural underpinnings of aspects of language and cognitive processing, in typically developing children and adults as well as those exhibiting atypical or pathological development utilizing combinations of behavioral and electrophysiological techniques.

The Neurocognition of Language Laboratory at Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking children from 6 - 12 years old to participate in a brain study of visual-sensory processing. We are looking for typically developing (neurotypical) children and children with autism spectrum disorder who are not currently taking psychiatric medications.
We measure the brain’s electrical activity, using small electrodes which rest on the scalp. This technique, called electroencephalography (EEG), is safe and non-invasive.
The experimental procedures will consist of autism assessment scales and EEG. The experiment will take approximately 2 hours.
Each child who completes the experimental activities will receive a $25 gift card.

Great summary of some fascinating work....
Neuroscientists create ‘atlas’ showing how words are organised in the brain Using brain imaging, scientists have built a map displaying how words and their meanings are represented across different regions of the brain
