Books, bookmarks, and big smiles! 📚 Our primary students had the best time with volunteers from , who read with them, decorated bookmarks, and (most importantly) helped students pick the perfect book to take home. Thank you, Turner Construction, for bringing so much joy to our readers!

How do you cultivate a “personal board of directors”: a group of people who will hold you accountable, mentor you, and support strong decision-making?

At our recent Family Connection Meeting, Jalen Nougues '13 returned to Harlem Academy with his mom, Christie, and mentor Mike “Vino” Levine, co-head of CAA Sports () and Harlem Academy Advisory Council Member, to share lessons from his journey.

Now three years into his career at CAA, Jalen focuses on basketball representation, supporting NBA, college, and high school athletes. Together, Jalen and Christie reflected on how the foundational skills and values first developed at Harlem Academy helped him build his own board of directors: asking for help, building authentic relationships, and leaning on the people in your corner. Jalen shared how Vino mentored him through internships and career pivots, helping shape his career path and his future.

A huge thank you to Mike, Jalen, and Christie for sharing such an inspiring evening with our community. This is what Harlem Academy is all about.

We were "blown away" by our 6th graders’ presentations on the global impacts of El Niño. Through a collaborative scientific research project, students investigated topics ranging from ocean currents and extreme weather to agriculture, marine ecosystems, food security, and climate change. Using scientific research and real-world examples, they developed evidence-based essays and presented their findings with clarity, confidence, and impressive depth of understanding.

Give this to a teacher who believes in you, knows when you are trying your best, and becomes someone you never forget. ❤️ That’s what makes Harlem Academy so special.

Last week, our community celebrated the incredible teachers who show up for students every day, from chocolate deliveries from Mr. Dotoli, to heartfelt notes from students, to delicious treats from Brunch at Zions.

A special thank you to Chef Chrystina, Harlem Academy kindergarten parent, for helping make our teachers feel so appreciated.

In preparation for their upcoming visit to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 4th and 5th grade students welcomed Annie MacRae, Harlem Academy trustee and former Met docent, for a lesson on African art and culture.

Students explored the symbolism, materials, and purpose behind works they will soon see at the museum, including the "Ci Wara headdress" and "Helmet crest from a nja masquerade." They learned how African art often serves an important role within communities and. They also discussed the traditions of specialized artists and guilds whose skills were passed down through generations.
