For me, this is the most important, most essential teaching parents can impart to their children, from the youngest age possible, to equip them for success in this world which is becoming something we cannot fathom right now. I think that 85% of humanity will be jobless in 20 years.

"Having depends upon being."

"Rage, rage, against the dying of the light".

Guide your children to find their inner fire from a young age.
Insist upon a rigorous reading regimen from a young age. Reading first before all. Screens limited to weekends if at all.
Inspection of the world around them, finding the cracks that are untenable, and taking responsibility for one of them, and taking action.

Those with inner integrity and responsibility, and critical thinking that can override the mindless march toward automation - are the ones who will survive and thrive. The old formulas don't work anymore.

The ‘Fraud Squad’ at Caltech Will Catch You if You Lie on Your Application 08/12/2026

More reasons to heed Kate's warnings about AI, about fake "passion projects", about lying about community service, or anything else.
If they want to admit you, they are going to vet you, and they will find out if you used AI, cheated in any other way on your app, or lied or embellished your ECs.

Incredibly proud, amazed, and grateful to announce admissions results for 2026 for undergraduate, medical school, and law school admissions - Stellar College Consulting.

I usually post this by the end of June - but these results are worth the wait. Once again, topping performance better than any preceding year - getting stronger with our results each cycle - which I attribute to two factors: incredibly talented students, and the relentless pursuit of FIT.

55% of applicants to medical school in the US get zero acceptances each year.
Sometimes, it's because the applicant is not qualified. More often, it's because the applicant has midguided notions and fails to do the most important thing medical school are looking for:
BE HUMAN.

You can stack all your research, internships, and leadership positions. But with that, you're still running in the pack.

What they want to see is, can you get your hands dirty working with people who are in trauma, dying, starving, suffering. Can you work face to face with the elderly who are dying, or babies who will spend less than a month as residents of the planet.
Will you actively champion and fight for the oppressed?

These qualities come out through the list of activities and your resume, but where they really come out is in the principal essay, or personal statement.

In addition to showing that you can stomach and even thrive in situations of trauma and suffering, you need to show that you can write a personal nonfiction that might not deal with medicine at all (or very little) and that you know your humanity and can let it be the only basis of that story.

They are not looking to be impressed by all your research and prestige. They are searching for rare diamonds that reflect the deepest possible humanity a candidate can have. Make sure they FEEL YOU.

It's that time of year, when high school seniors appear on my doorstep, sweaty, panting, and late to the game. It happens every year, and always sparks me to put up an offer to fresh and soph students to get a big discount on a package with me while there is still time to repair and strengthen the student profile.

It's August now, and too late to change what's been over the past 3 years of your high school career. Now, we will write like mad, organize and finalize college lists, and priorize the activity list.

And they come to me with clubs on their resume, maybe a few internships, a DECA award, a debate award, some impressive music talent --- maybe even a MITES attendance or an RSI summer under their belts.

But always, and I mean always, there are two critical missing pieces for a student who wants Ivy and T20 admission:

1. A paid job.

2. Community service.

A paid job is getting hired at a retail, restaurant, or other type of legitimate business where your parents don't own it, working stocking shelves or slinging ice cream, paper route, bagging groceries, folding shirts at Target - and pulling a paycheck. If and only if you have a legitimate small business with real receipts that can be proven over a period of a year or more can that suffice for the paid job.

This is one of the most critical extra-curriculars, because it shows the admissions officer you have humility, a work ethic, and industry about you. These qualities mean everything to elite admissions staff.

The community service commitment is not those random hours you put in at the church or temple, with your Key Club at school, or even with your scout troup. It is a dedicated, long term, and regular weekly donation of your time to suffering people, animals, or threats to the environment - that you do outside of the 4 walls of the school or any other organization. You join forces with a legitimate nonprofit on your own because you authentically want to help those who are hurting.
Admissions want people who take action to improve the world; they want community leaders.

If you are a freshman or sophomore now, do these things. They give an incredible edge in the admissions process.
