Calling In, Calling Out Culture
PDSA in conversation with Loretta Ross
As the world around us feels increasingly fractured, the work of building community has never been more urgent. But community is not a slogan. It is a practice. A muscle. And how we navigate harm, accountability, and conflict determines whether that muscle grows stronger or weakens.
Join PDSA for a powerful conversation with Loretta Ross on calling in, calling out, and what it means to stay in relationship while holding each other accountable. Together, we will explore how we move beyond shame and punishment toward connection, responsibility, and collective growth.

Dear Columbia School of Social Work community and friends:
We hope that you all are having a lovely summer! As the fall semester is approaching, we are in need of social justice leaders like you! PDSA (Professional Development Self Awareness) is hiring PDSA Orientation Facilitators to facilitate dialogues rooted in anti-oppressive social work practice with small groups of incoming students during Columbia School of Social Work’s orientation.
Facilitators will be tasked with:
Demonstrating anti-oppressive practice within their dialogue work as a facilitator
Developing and fostering authentic relationships, self-care and self-awareness
Navigating the nuances in difficult and uncomfortable small group discussions about race, gender, sexuality, class and all forms of power, privilege and oppression
Providing feedback on the orientation curriculum and experience, and how to improve it
*Facilitators are PAID $13.50 per hour for training and Orientation Day.*
* Licensed Social Workers can choose to opt for 6 CEU credits for training and $13.50 per hour for Orientation day.*
We are currently in the final recruiting process for Residential Orientation Facilitators:
August 30th: Residential Student PDSA Orientation
(MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE ENTIRE TRAINING DAY)
Training day: Friday, August 17th from 10:00am-4:00pm (lunch will be provided)
Facilitator Application: http://tinyurl.com/pdsa2018/
Everyone is welcome to apply for the Residential Orientation Sessions.
You may apply for one or all of the sessions.
Each orientation group will be divided into groups of 10-30 students that need 2 facilitators each. You will likely be paired with another student, CSSW faculty, CSSW alumni, or community member, to help facilitate.
If you are interested in the PDSA goals of inclusion, self-awareness and social justice practice, and/or have experience facilitating dialogues and groups that can get uncomfortable, deep and deep, we want you to facilitate!
If interested, please fill out the google form applications (linked under the orientation dates). If any questions or concerns arise, please feel free to email us.
In solidarity,
Lorenzo Shaw-Graham and Jonathan Chang
