Today, it is with a very heavy heart we share the passing of one of our members in our BCMS community, Jay Jankelewicz who’s passing was due to COVID-19 complications. Not only was he a beloved member of this organization but one of the original founders of The Marketing Society. He will always be remembered for being the person who started this all. -
From all of us at BCMS, we urge you to stay home and to protect your family and loved ones. Please stay safe and well.

Then you should definitely know Shirley Chisholm.
The first major-party black candidate for president of the United States (yes, before any males)
..and BROOKLYN COLLEGE graduate.
Shirley Chisholm (1924–2005) was an American politician, educator, and writer. She was a member of the Democratic Party.
Chisholm was born in Brooklyn, NY. She studied at Brooklyn College.
She was a member of the United States House of Reps for New York's 2nd district.
Shirley Chisholm ran for President of the U.S. in 1972 as a Democrat. She lost the primary to George McGovern.
Chisholm became the first major-party black candidate for President of the United States.

Emmett McBain: The Creative Ad Visionary
Emmett McBain was an African American Graphic Designer whose work in the Civil Rights era hugely impacted the black community. His ads spoke directly to them, highlighting their beauty, and bringing a positive image of people of color into the mainstream.
At the time, advertising just focused on white people, so consumers of color couldn’t relate to them.
