Last week, our department came together to welcome our new students and reconnect after the summer. The inaugural EHS Bonanza showcased faculty performances, and was an opportunity to launch a fundraising campaign to provide research opportunities and support for students and postdoctoral scholars to attend scientific conferences and present their research. We're seeking an individual with a high degree of competency in Bayesian statistical modeling, computer vision, and coding in R and/or Python. This position will focus on climate change and health problems relevant to the United States, countries in the tropics, and worldwide. https://apply.interfolio.com/173634

Neena Madhure (MPH) spent Summer 2025 working on a paper regarding the importance of providing individualized reports to study participants, including lessons learned, what to include, and what may not need to be emphasized. She also participated in any community partnership and strengthening activity that was available to her through the center, including working in a community garden with a middle school in the Bronx, along with tabling an event with the Dominican Women's Development group.

Mitsuya Hardy (MPH) spent Summer 2025 running exposure monitoring for the research and development and manufacturing site. After data is collected, she will create toxicology reports to present to participants and leaders.

Ashmitha Seshadri (MPH) spent Summer 2025 working with Insight Exposure & Risk Assessment Sciences, a scientific consulting firm focused on addressing challenges associated with chemical and biological exposures and health risks in both workplace and community settings. Throughout the summer, she performed literature searches to understand the toxicological, epidemiological, and regulatory implications of different chemicals to write reports assessing the risk from exposures. Additionally, Ashmitha will be involved in writing a research manuscript assessing potential exposures to asbestos from a talcum powder containing wood filler.

APEx Spotlight: Laila Gad (MPH) spent Summer 2025 as a lead for developing a curriculum for a series of workshops that are being held at senior centers across NYC. She reached out to senior centers to form partnerships between them and the Mailman/Aging Center for consistent programming on how to prevent heat-related illnesses and access low-cost cooling resources. Additionally, Laila presented for 45 minutes on different heat-related topics and handed out infographics. She has been to centers in Brooklyn and NYC.
